im traveling up to phx from yuma since theres is no lfs here, so that being said where do u guys prefer to buy your fish? i've only been in to reef culture and aquatouch and out of those two i would buy from aquatouch but i wanna know what u guys prefer? im looking for

purplefirefish
yellow clown goby
blue reef chromis
flame angel

aquarium arts usually has a decent collection. prices are fair on some things, i picked up a medium chevron tang for $100 + tax last week

blue reef chromis were like 4 bucks a piece
flame angels were reasonable also but I don't remember the price
they only had one purple fire fish I think it was 40
I don't think I saw any clown gobys but there may be one I didn't try to find one

I haven't made it there yet. the owner is very cool and has always helped me when I was in need. its a newer store so I think there would be deals to be had! I do know he just got new inventory today so might want to make a stop there

I would go see Carlos at the Aquarius. He is my top pick for all things fish and reef related. He wont steer you wrong. His shop is unlike most LFS you will find in the valley.

I believe he has both a flame and purple firefish right now among many others.

You can call ahead and he can usually pick up what you want when he goes to LA to buy fish. He makes a few trips each month and the quality is worth it.

All three are good stores...you will pay more at Aqua Touch as they do have an off site quarantine facility and will only release fish for sale that are eating and healthy. You can find good deals on fish at the Aquarius and Reef Monsters along with a good selection to pick from.

The best answer is any fish should be QT'd, regardless of where it comes from.

But, if a store has QT'd and treated a fish prior to it reaching a retail stock tank, the odds of success are improved of course. Aquatouch and Reef Culture are the only local two which do such, to my knowledge.

+1 ! We are lucky in that the majority of LFS here in the valley (map here) are high quality. Check each store and talk to employees yourself and form business relationships with the ones you like!

Of the stores mentioned, all are good choices and have their own merits. While I'm not one that follows the rule of QT'ing, your best odds are to do so. Even a fish that is properly QT'd by a store still goes through stress being in a new environment and potential bullying from other tankmates when first introduced.

I tried to find Sun Valley Marine today with no luck. Why is there no address for this place? I went to the corner of Elliot and Mcqueen and found nothing but a gas station and an off road truck shop.
