Recommendations for Belize?

I'm trying to plan a honeymoon for later this year. We're thinking about going to Belize b/c we've heard that it has some of the best diving around, and offer the possibility of going to the rainforest.

We're trying to find a resort with nice, clean rooms (preferably with A/C) and good food. Does anyone know of nice places to stay in Belize? I know its not the most prosperous country in the Caribbean, but since it'll be a honeymoon we'd like to have comfortable accomidations.

Any suggestions or comments from personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

there used to be a nice but very small resort at the end of Ambergris Cay. that was 10 years ago though....

ambergris is one of the best "tourist" places you can go. You could also make a trip over to Placencia. If you have a day and are down on the southern end of Belize, Cockscomb wildlife sanctuary has some incredible trails some of which lead to some amazing waterfalls.

I am going next month, the research I have done it looks like a great place. We will split up our vacation with 4 days in Abrigris Caye nad 4 days in the Jungle on the mainland.
I think we will travle to Abergris caye with reservations for the first night only and go from there. Belize only has a 47% fill rate on the resorts and Hotels.

The Pelican Beach resort is nice its further south on a really small caye near dangriga and the sittee river. Very close to cockscomb jaguar reserve. Nice beach and right on the reef you can just swim out 50 feet to the reef wall and then 300 more feet to the outter reef edge for some deep dives. The larger cayes are more touristy if you like that.

We're going to Ramon's Village on Ambergris Cay in June. It's very highly rated as a dive resort, and looks wonderful online. My only concern is lack of all-inclusive resorts in Belize. There just don't seem to be any good ones (three or four stars). If you want cheap, safe, all-inclusive that's definitely tourist friendly, try Cozumel. We've been to Cozumel, Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), Turks and Caicos and Grand Cayman. Cayman was the best by far, but also pricey. Punta Cana had a great resort (five star, Palma Real, absolutely unreal place) , so did Turks and Caicos (Beaches) but town was intimidating, diving was so-so. Cozumel was cheap, diving was fantastic, I felt very safe (though not as safe as Cayman), and the resort was comfortable.

belize is nice but If I did it all over again I would go a little more south to rotan (honduras bay islands) really nice;)

We stopped last year and it was our favorite spot. We didnt get to do anything in the water there. We went cave tubing. I highly recomend it as it is an experience of a lifetime. English is the national language too which is also a plus.

We spent a week at Ramon's Village in Sept of 05. The staff there was great. The rooms are nice and have AC. The diving is very good. The bugs can be a pain, but what we found to work the best was some stuff called cactus juice. It really kept them away. I have a bunch of pics from the diving on my website in my sig below.

I am trying to plan a trip in the near future to Belize as well..

If I can say anything...visit the hole... it is $184 a person but absolutely awe-inspiring.

Here is a website I found that helped me find where we would stay...

I hope this helps.... And have fun!
