First off I have a 29G BioCube. It currently has two clowns that are hosting in a RBTA. These are the only fish in the aquarium right now. I was wanting to get an active fish in the water column. I was thinking of a Yellow Assessor. I know they can tend to be shy but they look so cool! I just don't want to buy a fish that will hide all day. I was also thinking about either a Orchid or Indigo Dottyback. I am getting a Orange Striped Goby/Pistol pair as well. I don't think 4 fish in there will be an issue but speak up if it is. This is a mixed reeef tank and I do 5 gallon weekly water changes and have a great skimmer as well.

I value the advice on this forum let me know what you think!

The yellow assessor is best suites for a 40 gallon+ I personally think.

I think the goby/shrimp combo and maybe a royal gramma would finish of your stocking, giving you a nice variety of fish.the dottybacks can become very aggressive for their size.

The goby/pistol shrimp combo is about your only choice. I would imagine your clowns will be very territorial and will harass any fish swimming near their spot and anem

Why? I think they are perfect for nanos. I had one for two years in my 28. It's now in my 50 cube. No difference in how it acted between the two tanks that I can tell.

However I do agree there may be issues adding fish period with the established clown pair.

That is just a personal opinion, not fact.

What I offer is my own opinion.

The shrimp and goby combo would be fine.

No worries, I was just curious why that is your opinion :) Unless mine is unusual, it spends very little time out in the water column. Most of the day is spent upside down in the rockwork. It only uses maybe a third of my 50 gallon, and it only used about 1/2 of the 28 it was in previously.

Again, just being curious.

You're opinion might be a lot better then mine!

I say you should go for it then.If something bad happens,or if you feel the fish isn't happy ect,you could always put it up for sale! :)

I can speak to a yellow assessor with a pair of clowns.

I have a 40 breeder primarily SPS and a pair of black clowns that host a Frogspawn on the left hand side of the tank. My ORA yellow assessor stays mostly under the rockwork on the right side of tank, swimming out to the right corner/side every once in a while.

The moment the female clown sees the assessor it chases it back into the rocks. I am actually looking at adding a couple more fish to the breeder with the hopes that the assessor gets to come out more. The clowns and the assessor were together in a 29 and now the 40 breeder. I have had both for over 2 years. Luckily the way my rockwork is I can still see the assessor even when it is hiding.
