Rectangular Shaped Halide Reflectors?

AcroporAddict

There is no substitute.
Guys,
I have a 465 gallon SPS reef tank. The tank is 8 foot long x 40 inches front to back. I currently a running four Lumenmax Elite reflectors with 400 watt Radium bulbs, which are square shaped and 14.5" x 14.5."

My reflectors are fine in spread left to right, as I have one for every 2 foot of tank length.

What I am trying to find out is if there is a good reflector that is maybe rectangular in shape that would give me more spread front to back, as the tank is 40" front to back.

I have enough light for this reef, so I don't want to add any more lights, but instead of a square shaped reflector like the elite, are there any rectangular reflectors that could spread the light better front to back? I am envisioning a rectangular reflector maybe with the long side front to back and the short side left to right.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, but I want to avoid adding any more halides or any other type light to the tank, just add more spread to the front to back side with the 4x 400 watt lights I am using.

Are there any hydroponic type reflectors that would be suitable? Thank you.
Dave

I can't answer you on the rectangular ones but I would say if you went with bigger fixtures you should be OK. 14" would be considered mini's.

Sanjay's tank is very similar to yours and he was running large Lumenarc's for the longest time but switched to large Lumen Max in post #1088 (not the "elites" but the original Lumenmax).

These reflectors are in the 20"+ range. I think both of them may be harder and harder to find though. The Hamilton Cozumel would also be in this size range.

I am using large Lumen Brights. They have to be mounted fairly high because they have a distinct focused pattern but I'm getting an effective 36" spread with the bottom of the reflectors at 14" off the water. I know a large Lumenarc/max would provide even greater spread at a lower height.

I just put 1 lumenmax large reflector on my 36" cube and it covers the entire tank very well. you might be able to run 3 halides with this reflector on your tank.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The Lumenmax large is a Sunlight Supply product, and they are very few and far between right now, as Sunlight is out of the reef game. They are unavailable on hydroponic websites as well, and even worse I would need 4 of them.

The Hamilton Technology Cabo Sun or Cozumel Sun Mogul reflectors look to fit the bill. They are about 20 x 20 each. For me, the Cozumel Sun reflector would probably be my choice, as it includes a splash lens. Both are similarly priced.

The ones I got are from there hydro side of the business so they should available. Also, I'm not so sure that you would need 4 of them. I have mine with the bulb mounted 14 inches off of the water and it is covering a 36*36 area nicely. I will see if I can find a model number for you. Just so you have another option.

I would really appreciate a part #. Thank you.

The LB large is a fine reflector, but they need to be raised pretty high above the tank to prevent spotlighting. If you have the room above the tank no problem. The Lumenmax gives good spread a bit lower than the LB can go.

In my case I have a drop ceiling in the basement where my 465 is, and while ceiling height is not low, my tank with the stand is pretty tall, so I do not have as much room above the tank work with.

I just need a bit more front to back spread in my lights, I think. I have ordered 4 of the Lumenmax large reflectors from an online place, but I am not sure if they still have them in stock.

Did you happen to find that model number? Is it actually a Lumenmax reflector?
