Recycling corals

I have a plethora of orange cap. So much so that I can not give it away as fast as it grows. Would it be a bad idea to take the trimmings and recycle them in a CaRx? I suspect I will be getting one down the road and can start stock piling "media" now and I remove the orange cap.

Why would you not take a it to a LFS? Even if they only give you $1/frag, you're still better off than using healthy coral as media.
