Red based H.crispa?

Stupid question folks cause I'm pretty sure I know the answer already.....but....

has anyone seen or heard of a red column (based) H.crispa?

I've got a small purple H.crispa in my tank already, with a gray base, and splotches of orange on the column. I just received what is alledgedly another purple H.crispa that looks an awful lot like an M.doreensis instead. It has the standard red base w/ prominent verrucae that I've seen on every other M.doreensis I've ever had. But it has an awful lot of tentacles for an LTA.

Its just finished acclimating and is in the tank right now, lights are out for right now, but I've been able to take some pics of the column and verrucae.....none of the oral disc.

And here it is as advertised on Dr's Foster & Smith website.

I'm willing to be money that its an LTA, (M.doreensis) I just want confirmation from others before I take issue with them.

they come in a few different colors, the pic is of an H crispa, and a very healthy one to boot.

The fist two pictures is that of M. doreensis for sure. It cannot be anything but M. doreensis, IMO.

Thats pretty much my thoughts exactly Minh. Looking more closely at the pic from the website, it's kinda easy to see the tentacles curling up like M.doreensis will do.

I've spoken to them on the phone and sent them the same pics I posted here. They've been great in the past and I doubt very seriously that this wil be any different....

But I wouldnt have ordered it if I'd realized it was an M.doreensis.

I'll wait and see.

Yeah, no doubt its M. doreensis. It does seem to be a very nice one though.
The good doctors are usually a little better at IDs than that.
I could certainly see how they could have made the mistake if they didn't put it up to look at the base.

That is m. doreensis , I can see a few dots of color on the verrucae in addition to the red/orange base. Do take issue with them.
Did you just order that from divers den this past friday? they had two, purple sebae's a 6" and 7"( item #081007262 7" Heteractis crispa $149.99)
I thought the color was either photo shopped or an effect of their 400w 20k halides. I questioned them was told to do it via e:mail. (diff. facilities) ,they were sold by the time i got my responses.

thanks for the prompt reply. watts/gallon is very unreliable too many other factors anyway i have enough par, & lux/lum output for a sebae , the tank also gets some direct sunlight, however i don't have the same level of intense point source lighting in the kelvin and cri as your H.I.D. (high intensity discharge), lighting system . are you saying that it will not appear to have as intense and deep of a purple but still remain purple long term or would the tentacles look brown with magenta dots at the tips ?

The short answer is Yes. I bought it on Friday, (08-10-07).
This is the 7 inch anemone.

It is a beautiful anemone, and was burying its foot in the substrate as I was leaving for work.

Sadly, its not what I ordered.

I'll keep everyone posted when I hear back from them.

No word back from Dr's Foster & Smith yesterday, called them this morning and spoke with a very nice customer service rep. She advised me the manager had seen the photo's I sent and forwarded them to the "in house marine biologist". Once she heard back from the Biologist, she (the manager) would be contacting me. The service rep estimated either later on today or sometime tomorrow...
I was assured by the customer service rep that they would do everything they could to rectify the situation.

That's definitely not an H Crispa.
The verucae on the H Crispa is more of a random placement and have no color in the center like this:

glad to hear it's been resolved and if it's any consolation, you're not the only one, they did post two of them.
the irony here for me is that since friday every time i looked at my sebae anemone i was upset about missing out on such a purple h. crispa. aside from the questionable deep blue/violet color i've never found a sebae for sale with tentacles that are almost all purple. your pictures clearly answered my question about the two of them.
