red bug damage?

You need to stick to interceptor not flatworm exit. And interceptor will kill arthropods, that includes shrimp, crabs, amphipods, etc but it is also dose dependent. In other words, if you dose low enough, the shrimp and crabs will live but maybe so will the red bugs. The other issue is red bug eggs, nobody really knows anything about them yet. Some people advocate single dose interceptor and others suggest multiple dosing days apart. Anybodies guess as to how many days apart, but it seems like internet consensus is 3 to 4 days apart. And not sure if it should be one time dosing, two time dosing or three time dosing. It is a work in progress. At the least, one time dosing will drastically reduce red bug population whether it wipes it out is unknown, maybe yes, maybe not.

the DT need to be nuked so all the red bugs die . all you need is one to start it all over again . they can completely kill sps for sure . i have used it on a few tanks and it really works well but you may have an issue with inverts . as i say may ,i have never lost any inverts in using it but have heard of people that have for sure .

I also just recently got an infestation of red bugs. My SPS are small enough that I can QT but I was wondering if I take out the corals to QT is there a chance that red bugs may remain in the DT? If so should I just treat my whole system instead of QT'ing. I'm worried about my mandarin which depends on pods for its main food source.

I stop by many VET and Pet Shop today and they don't have and don't want to sell the interceptor for me. Where can I find one? It's really hard to get.

there are a couple of treads here on RC about the use of interceptor and i would suggest that you print it out and bring it to a vet shop and try to speak with someone about the possibility of purchasing some for the use in a salt water tank . you need them to understand that it has its purpose in red bug removal and also other arthropods .i would suggest that you also read up on it so you can have an informed discussion on its use if the vet decides to help you .

I own 5 dogs and use a different heartworm medicine than intereceptor for the dogs and the vet was still difficult. I had to sign a release which didn't bother me but they do give you a funny look when you try to explain to them what it is for; you can thank todays sue happy society for all this scrutiny. Vets are just trying to cover their *** and you can't blame them for that.

Jeff, yes they are covering their butts for sure .
mai, you may have to find a different vet for it but it will then be difficult because you would be new to them and they may not be inclined to helping you . it sucks that you can't show them the information and they won't help you .i feel for you and hope that you can find another avenue for it .maybe find your local drug dealer ? lol
its also funny that the aquarium "doctors" haven't come out with such a pill for aquarium use yet . its probably in the making but you never know .

I explained the process to my vet and she was very helpful. Wanted to know the proper dose for the labeling and wrote me a prescription. I took this paper and mailed it to drs foster and smith and had 2 tablets mailed to my house with free shipping. The note from DFS said "for Corals". Just be honest with your vet and you will have some luck. If not, find a new vet.
