Red Bug treatment w/ interceptor help!

When using interceptor:
The dosage used in an aquarium to kill redbugs is 25mg (0.025 grams) per 10 gallons of actual tank water. That is 25mg of the entire tablet. Each tablet in the pack of 6 will treat about 380 gallons. The tablets are ground with a mortar and pestle into a fine powder.

Why do I not understand this? Does he mean 1 tablet for 10 gallons or for 380 gallons?

How much would I need to use for 170 gallons of water? And how long can red bugs go without acros to eat? I think my other tank has them too, so I took out all the acros from it and just want to treat them all in my dad's big tank. How long does the smaller tank need to go SPS'less before I can add them back again?

Thanks! And sorry I know this topic has been covered multiple times, but I just want to make sure I do it right!

BTW, no shrimp or crabs in the tank and I don't care if it kills off all the pods. So if I overdose will it harm anything else (corals, fish, etc.)?

Whole tablet is 380 gallons. You can overdose. I would use half tablet per treatment. Im sure you know this but make sure you get the right size pill. You can use the smaller pills but you'll have to do a little math.

+1 for one large tablet treating 380g. I used 1/4 tab per treatment on my 100g when I had red bugs (not any more!). For a 10g you'd want to use roughly 1/40th of a large tablet, or 1/10th of a quarter tablet. I shaved a tab with a razor blade for small tank treatment.

Your fish and corals will be fine.

Ok, thank you! I got the large dog tablets. How long do I need to treat for and do I just do a 25% water change and run carbon afterward?

I just treated my tank myself. Did the same thing, moved all acros to one tank, a 60 gallon system. While reading about dosage, I saw numbers for one large pill treating 100-400 gallons. I did near full strength, half a pill. I ran this for 24 hours, added air to skimmer, and did a 25% water change. Red bugs gone. I'm going to wait a little over a week to put acros back in their tanks. Red bugs die without acros after about five days.

You won't regret it. Everyone looked so happy just hours into treatment, except my copepods of course. Today would be one week since treatment. My Garf bonsai is almost completely purple again(was completely brown) with excellent pe! It was one of the most affected by red bugs.

Sorry to hijack. I would like to also ask a question since I found some on only a couple of acros which i dipped in Revive. I assume that they are probably in other corals.
Anyway, I have the small tablets. I need to treat 160 gals. Should I use half a pill or the whole thing? Do I turn off the skimmer and carbon as well?
Do I also then only do a 25% water change after 24 hours then back to normal WC routine?
Thanks in advance

Small pills (2-10 lb)have 2.3 mg of Milbemycin, while large pills have 23 mg. Decide what dosage you would do (see previous post) with a large pill, and times it by 10. Depending on what dosage you decide, it will be anywhere from 3.16-12 small pills. Stop the air flow through you skimmer, but keep the water flowing. Remove any carbon, chemipure, purigen, etc. The dosage and length of treatment vary. I mentioned dosage disputes earlier. How long to dose. While researching it, I saw numbers as low as 6 hours to as high as 24. The lower times tended to have a greater reoccurrance(repeated treatments). The high dosage and long exposure, from my research, didn't have any detrimental reaction from corals or fish, they also didn't have to retreat the system. So I decided on close to full tested strength(1 Lg pill per 100 gallons) and the longest time used, 24 hours. I actually used half a pill for 60 gallons, but close enough to the high dose. After 24 hours, I did a 25% water change, started air to the skimmer, and added carbon. The next day I changed the carbon.

This is what I did. Worked awesome. Now for the legal one liner, your results may vary.

So 5.75 mg per tablet, so each tablet will do 25-100 gallons depending on dose. So low to high dose by pill, 1.2-4.8 pills for 120 gallons of water, actual volume. Remember to calulate you tank(minus rock, sand, and air) plus your sump volume plus your plumbing volume. This is a good thing to know anyways, so it's worth the time to figure out. If you can't figure it out, post your system specs, we'll figure it out.

My tank is 160 gal if filled to the top. water height is 2 inches below. 40 gal sump that is about half full. 120 lbs of Fiji LR. I am guessing 150 gallons. Two pills for a lightly infected tank. I can no longer see any bugs from any corals (doesn't mean anything though) after dipping two in revive for 15 minutes...

+1

Tried shorter times, and they always came back for me. 24 hours was what finally did it.
