Red Bugs in STL!!

Well, today I picked up a frag of tri-color Acropora from Clayton pet Emporium of all places, and found it to be infected with red bugs, I also bought a frag from another store in the stl a few weeks ago that also had red bugs. I dont see any AEFW yet, thank god, but I think this ridiculous. Anybody else have this problem? I thought I was safe with clayton pet but I guess not. I might just have to order from liveaquaria now.

I would bet you will find that every store in town has some bad guys in just about every tank. With the volume they have to move, there is no economical way to prevent it. You have to use good QT practices, dip new stuff and keep a close eye on everything we put in our tanks.

No one looks out for you, but you.

Ditto what faz said. It is impossible for stores to QT and treat all corals coming and going, it would be economically impossible. It is our responsibility to take care of our tanks and this include proper QT or taking the chances that come with introducing new livestock. I can not fault CPE or any other store and I bet they all have redbugs.

Whole salers are FILTHY with red bugs. No LFS is perfect either.

Like the gents above me stated, QT and treat all corals.

You guys might not believe this but I actually saw an aiptasia in a tank at one of the LFSs also.

Appalling!:D

:lol2: New York Gang style baby!! I'm afraid to say that ANYWHERE you buy things stuff like this will happen. Even more so from ON-LINE dealer's, I would trust the LFS before the On-line dealer due to at least I can view the item in person which makes all the differences. Plus I once bought a Coral from MS which I could clearly see had "Red bugs" before buying it I ask them to dip it being's it had them, there response was " sure no problem" and they dip it right there for me. I never seen a "red bug" in my tank.

Please don't take this the wrong way, However sometimes we need to take responsibility for our lack of actions rather than to be upset with someone else due to our mistake. For example, I just lost a Gold Spotted Rabbit fish after having it for 5 days. I didn't go to the LFS complaining to them that it was a bad fish, I took the Fish & a water sample to them. I first ask them to test my water ( I already did this myself, but maybe I have a bad test??) they did and came up with nothing really wrong as did I. Then I explained how it had been doing and everything I did with it and that the other fish I bought from them that day was still alive and fine. I offered things that I thought might have caused it's death but in the end the outcome was they'd order me another fish.

I fined that sometimes we tend to blame someone else for something we ourselves either didn't do Or should have done. I too have been guilty of this, a local reefer once pointed out this to me. Now I look a little harder at the situation before blaming one of the LFS. Your case reminds me of what happened to IM LON 2, he learnt the hard way to always DIP all of his coral first as one batch of Zoa's with Nudi's wiped out all of his Zoa's which was a tremendous amount of Zoa's. Lessons learnt the hard way suck, but Red bugs can be defeated. Again I'm not trying to be rude, just pointing out the obvious. :o

Haha, ok sorry guys. Just a little upset about the red bugs but I think I got them all and was just wondering what you thought.
