Red bugs

Hello reefers!
I recently purchased some coral from my LFS, I was all excited to get it in my tank so in my haste I didn't do as much research as I should have and learned nothing about coral dipping prior to drip acclimating and plunking it in my tank. I have since learned from this mistake the hard way... I am not infested with everyone's favorite red bug. After researching how to rid myself of these pests I learned about using interceptor to kill these Devils off. (Thank you mr. Saltwater tank). And to my surprise I already had some right at home thanks to having too many dogs. So i figured out my dose, (roughly 1/6 of a tab for 60ish gallons) and treated the tank. Only to wake up and discover nothing happened. So the next night i used roughly 1/3 of a tab only to find out nothing happened again. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I have removed all carbon and chemipure, filter socks are out. And my skimmer air line is shut off so it's not stripping. Please help as I am fairly new to this hobby.

if you are certain they are red bugs, then your interceptor tablets may have expired. otherwise, interceptor has a almost sure kill record for red bugs.

Hi,

In my case, bugs came back 2 months from 3 treatments with interceptor..

But I think that it is logical! The copépodes and gammares also returns, then why not bugs?!!

This little parasites is one fck.. VIRUS!!!

I not in little more, I am afraid of losing some acros as speciosa rather quickly!! Once lived as a parasite fragile acros can expel their zooxantelles has any moment!!

Are you guys sure that you have the regular Redbugs everyone else has?

abruzzo62: how old are the tablets? I am not sure but perhaps the if the tablets are old or been kept in a warm environment the active ingredient degrades? This might explain why there was no kill.

FWIW I've used the 1/4 of largest dog pill when I treated my tank (47G) more than a year ago. I have been bug free ever since. I treat all incoming corals SPS and LPS with 1/8 of the large tablet in a small 5G tank.

Interceptor for Redbugs works as there are MANY success reports. I'd be inclined to believe that either you have a different species of redbugs or the tablets are degraded.

I recall a couple of years ago one of my friends with a coral farm showing my redbugs that looked like redbugs, but they were slightly larger and they were all hanging around on the glass! So what you may have is a different species of pods.

Do you see them on the acropora? Have you noticed colour loss or loss of polyp extension or reduced health on your acropora?

Hi sahin,

Yes of course there is a degradation of acros!

Polyps do not go out any more, and acros becomes dark!!

Before I deal has the interceptor, I saw black bugs walking on acros, but the I see nothing!! But I know that it is them!!!

Exactly even symptoms as before..

I am sure that tablets of milbemax was still good.

really i not understand why..
