Red Bugs

I just finished my 24hr treatment in my entire system.
I realize I may be doing this again being Im banking on the 1,24hr,heavy dose method. we will see how things go. seems the hermits in the system I didnt take out survived but there were lots of dead pods

Just talked to the Vet and got a FIRM NO! I think he thought I was crazy.

I took the printed out page, my vet didn't care what it was for, just put "fish" as the dogs name, cost me $8.

So, would anyone out there be kind enough to sell one pill to me for say $15. I'd Paypal anyone the money who would be willing to mail one pill.

try a different vet maybe. he is being a little unreasonable. its not like you are going to eat it... are you?

This IS the best way to do interceptor IMO this assures you that the are out of your system by leaving the display acroless for more than 5 days and you can overdose all you want without worring about killing all the pods in your display .

A 40g breeder(100 bucks Tops)would be ideal to hold a good amount of corals for the QT period. If done right in the QT it may only take one treatment depending on dosage and flow in the tank .

So if you leave the display acroless for 5 days the red bugs will starve? Has anyone tried this and had it work? Thanks! :)

Nate

Eric Borneman has observed it many times. Red bugs die in 3-5 days with no host . They are also live bearers so if you get them all once you got them all.

I also have a problem getting a hold of the pills. All online stores require prescriptions before they can send it out, Canada/USA.
I'm gonna bring my dog into the vet and ask if they can put her on INTERCEPTION. I'll end up paying a little over 100 bucks just to get some pills. :(

HURT, if I do get the pills, I'll work something out with U :)

Danielboun, I actually have a pill on the way, a fellow board member was kind of enough to send me a pill. I'd post his name, but he might not want people knowing we are engaging in this "underground drug trafficing":rolleye1:. But, he may very well get in touch with you if he sees this thread.

MiddletonMark, I'd be very interested in knowing where you can buy it online without a prescription. From my understanding of it, you must have a prescription to aquire it.

2 questions,

Anyone have any good ideas on how I can take out my fire shrimp? Would putting a peice of shrimp in a plastic coke bottle work?

My tank is 55g with a 20g fuge, so roughly 70g of H20. How much of the pill should I dose? I also understand I should dose 3 separate times. How long should I wait between these doses?

each pill does 380 gal.... I would use half... I overdose and it doesnt harm the corals.. crabs are toast, My cleaner shrimp are easy to get out. fire shrimp are tougher.more shy, I might try a deep mayo jar or other deep container and bait it.

Hurt, try using a small plastic coke bottle. from the top of the coke bottle cut two inch down flip the the top into the open bottle. drill a small hole at the bottom of the bottle so u can run a fish line through it. pull fish line when shrimp goes for bait. this is how i trap my aggressive domino. Make sure you starve them for a day or two before trapping.;)

Danielboun, I'm a bit confused on the trap. I should cut the top inch or so off of a 20oz. coke bottle, then flip this backwards into the bottle. Cut a hole in the bottom bottle for a fishing line, then what exactly does the fishing line attach to?

It sounds like the fishing line may be the lure. If you pull it through the coke bottle slowly (with some meaty goodness tied on), you may be able to entice your fire shrimp to follow. Ince in the coke bottle, he my find it difficult to retreat since the opening is not as smooth as it was going in. Just my thoughts on it.

Hurt, the fishing line is attach to the cap screwed on to the top. make sure that the top portion of the bottle when you invert it doesn't slide through the body. the aperture of the body can be decrease by using a hot glue gun if you have it handy. apply the hot glue on the inner rim of the aperture of the main body. remember your not gluing any two piece together, just decreasing the body aperture. If that doesn't work out for u modify it.

by the way, the fishing line is not a lure. it is used to pull the inverted apparatus so that it covers the opening of the bottle after the shrimp goes in for the bait. when setting up the bait, lay the bottle on its side.

when your cutting the bottle cut at least two inch from the top so that the opening when cut will be big enough for the object u want to trap.

just to share my experience cuz I just treated my 120g last friday and have 2 shrimps (cleaner) and I overdosed the tank 1 pill and run it for almost a day... and my 2 cleaner survived the whole process but crabs died and all my pods died after 1 hr of treatment. I am not suggesting that you dont take out your shrimp but just sharing you my experience. I tried to catch them but its a tough... BTW the 2 sps that is infected has great polyps extension now which before it wont show anything...
