Red Dragon Acro

Is it just me or am I seeing this red dragon in all sorts of different shades or colors? It doesnt seem very consistent from tank to tank.
+1 on that echinata

+1 Ya John's Enchinta look's awesome hope mine look's that nice when it grow's up but mine don't have lineage it's a look alike to the Ice fire.
I'm pretty sure John's is Icefire probally got it from Karl.

I saw the mother(s) since he had more than 1, and I wasn't impressed at all. If he didn't point it out to me, I wouldn't have noticed it.

Guys since many discussions on price here, one of my observation:

In a discussion thread of a named SPS coral, you often hear forks talking that the piece is nice BUT does not worth that much.

In contrary , for a named LPS, people all over crying 'it is a steal under that price go get before it gone'.

Maybe this why some of the chalice price for $$$$ for an eye.

Just a observation, not saying which one is the way it should be.

That's because if you accidentally give your lps the stink eye it doesn't up and rtn on you. Haha.. darn picky sps.. It's to fragile to cost so much ;)

Then someone might think: what if I am the only lucky one who keep this piece alive and grow it, I can sell a polyps for $$$$ :-)

Just joking I believe lot of reefers are not for profiting.

move over rd...hello efflo :) nice piece!

Thanks buddy... the efflo there you see is a piece of $500 efflo grown from a frag I got years ago... I broke off that ~8" piece from my main colony two months ago...

... and I moved it to a valley down the center of one of my displays... here it is filling in and growing over the edge that was broken off...

... and here it is behind the purple tang... it was after I took these photos that I noticed my red dragon had fallen... but luckily it fell into nothing and did not skip a beat after I remounted it...

My guess is its an aussie wild...infact I think I read that already.

Yeap it's an Aussie wild... for years one of the Holy Grail Acropora species and it was great to see them available from Australia in recent years... something I dreamed of years ago... and Paul don't worry... there is no ugly true echinata! :)

Any of you guys know is John Susbilla's (tubs) real deal echinata is still floating around? I've not been completely in the sps loop in recent years...

Sorry to go a bit off topic... but let's be honest, we could all argue about frag prices until we're blue in the face and disagree, but we could all agree that those discussions are no fun!

John,
I'm not sure but from what I know Karl got his from Rich Steven's which Rich got his from Jame's Lee from Aquascene in the Bay Area Jame's had only sold about five frag's of it to local reefer's in the Bay Area befor Rich got his.
Originally Jame's named it Aquascene Enchinata if I'm not mistaking and when Karl got it he called it Ice Fire Enchinata.
If that's the one your speaking That John had (Tubs) I see it here in the Sacramento area once in awhile.
Also Steve Tyree had some of it he got from Karl he may still have some.
Hope that help's
BTW your tank looks amazing

Been known to happen with many corals.

I went over to a local reefers' place once (Carl's) and asked him where he got that sweet SPS..............he said he got it as a frag from me. I had the same piece in my system but it did not even look close.

True enough Dave....but I find a lot of the higher priced corals ones that will look at least similar from tank to tank. That is one of the reasons we pay the big $$ is because we pretty much know it will look like what we see and be sweet....not something that looks very different from what we have seen.

MO anyway.

Thanks Paul... the tubs echinata had the same characteristic echinata growth form, but was a distinctively different color than the Aussie wild imports and the icefire... here is an old photo...
