Red Dragon & Purple Dragon Eye STN

Purchased several frags from a fellow reefer and all are doing well except for a couple of fresh cut frags. Both acros pictured are suffering from STN. Alk was a bit high at 8.5-9. I've adjusted my calcium reactor to keep it at 8.

Any suggestions on how to save it?

FYI. I also have another Purple Dragon from the same guy that was encrusting on the plug. No issues with that frag.

Thanks

That's not really STN. It's from attaching to the plug. Give it a day or two more to see if it spreads upward.

lost 1/4" since I first posted. The lower branches are now dead. Decided to cut the dead and remount.

No recession overnight. Mounted on plug with glue only. No epoxy.

Have you tried lowering your frag plug? fresh cuts + new tank parameters = stressed corals, and they wouldnt want to be blasted by light the first few days !

i thought it is good as preventive measure

Smooth skin acros are more sensitive to dips so sometimes if the dip is too strong or they are left in too long they will recede or the skin will peel. I've made that mistake a few times over the years, you forget you have a coral in the dip, etc.

I also noticed that if a parameter would get out of wack (alkalinity for instance) or there was a contaminant of some kind in the tank, the smooth skin pieces would be the first to show the stn at the base or burnt tips.
