Red Dragon puts off tons of heat

I have a R.D. 4.5 that runs very hot. It heats my tank water up a good 4-5 degrees causing my chiller to run at least 50% of the day, even at night and in the morning it kicks on. I keep my house temp at 72 and when I remove the Red Dragon from my system and use an Eihem pump the tank temp never breaks 77. I thought this might be normal but after visiting with a few others who own Red Dragons it doesn't seem to be. The pump is very clean and less than one year old.

Hi Clint,

It's all dependent upon the size system this is on, and what model of Eheim pump you're comparing it to. Let me know when you get time.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Jeremy,

Total gallons is ~250 U.S. gallons and the Eheim pump is the biggest one they offer. I have a buddy with a 180 and the same R.D. pump and his chiller rarely turns on.

It definitely shouldn't be putting off that much heat at all. Do you have a watt meter you can put on the pump to see how much power it's pulling?

Was this purchased from us? If so, you can send it to me and I will take a look at it and figure out what's going on.

thanks,
jeremy
