Red Dragon return keep stopping...

Hi,

I have been running a red dragon 3.5 for return for the past 2 years. Last month it stopped running so I gave it a vineger bath but since then... It will stop running every 3-5 days. I have to keep open the pump and clean for it to continue to run but for a few days only. There are 2 plastic bearings inside the pump. Do I need to replace them? This issue of stopping happened 3x since I purchased this pump. Do they require that much mantainance? Weird thing is I have been running the bubbleking mini with red dragon pump and it has never stop once within these two years... Maybe I have bad bearings? Please help. Thank you.

The bearing that typically goes bad is the one that is in the front cover, where the shaft goes through. It typically happens from lack of maintenance to be honest. They really need a good vinegar bath every few months to keep calcium deposits out of there. My guess is that if you pull the impeller assembly out, and hold that cover and rotate the impeller assembly you will feel some resistance from that bearing being calcified up.
