Red growths on LPS - flatwork?

Hey Guys,

Darn Auto correct.. Flatworm*

I'm trying to figure out if I have some horrible worm that I have never heard about or what. It appears that there are small deep red flat worm/growth on my Frogspawn. Either the parasite has moved to the pits in the coral growth or it's eating holes into the skeleton. I do not see any on the living tissue. Anyone ever see this or know what this is?

I have some dip I will probably try but I would like to identify it.

Thank you,

It does appear that there's a burrowing parasite at work there. I've never experienced nor heard of such a critter. I'd probably keep an eye out for new pits to gauge whether this is an active, on going thing.

Not having a positive id, you may need to try a couple different dips.

I would cut some of the base off so you can get a good look at what they are.

It is hard to tell from the pics....butttt...it looks like boring sponges...i'm not 100% sure, but I believe they are harmless....can anyone else corroborate?

Looks like sponges. The base of the head looks healthy. I have the same black sponges at the base of my digitata colony for many years. Thought they were bugs at first. Wouldn't worry about it.
