Red Haddon Anemone

Hi guys! I have a 100 liter system and have recently acquired (2 days ago) a red haddoni anemone. Unfortunately, the mouth of the anemone still remains open and I am not sure whether I should start some kind of treatment. I have been reading about the use of ciprofloxacin but not sure if I should start it yet given its current appearance and the fact that is in my display tank. I would appreciate every help.

it looks good. Open mouth or not is not really all that important unless it is a lot more than showed in pictures above.
Send picture of it looking at its worst. That is what is needed to decide if it need to be treat.
Nice anemone.

The sense of food in the water will cause it to open the mouth a lot more. Inflated lip too if this is the case.

Thanks @OrionN . I will try to take a pic tomorrow if it gets worse. Already supplied myself with some ciprofloxacin (human grade though). Currently that is its state:

Haven’t seen actually a difference at its mouth when feeding. Of course haven’t tried to feed it directly in order not to stress it.

It looks healthy, and it sounds like you're doing all the right things. Something to keep in mind, that amount of "open mouth" is not necessarily a sign of trouble. When I had a Haddoni it would look like that even if it was moving it's foot around under the sand. So in this case, it could simply indicate that it hasn't decided if it is comfortable yet in it's new location.

The only advice I would give, keeping your nitrates at 0 can be detrimental to your corals and anemones. I doubt this is the cause of your current concern, but you may want to target 5-15ppm instead to promote photosynthesis.

Thanks bradleym for your valuable comments. Have been trying to increase it to been honest by overfeeding but it seems that the refugium is doing too good work. Maybe I should turn off the skimmer?

Hi guys. Wanted to give you an update and request your help. The previous week the anemone was doing great but this week I have been seeing it deattaching her leg and possibly trying to move?in this week I have been seeing it extending its mouth a lot. Is that normal? I have uploaded both a pic from last week and a pic from this morning. @OrionN @bradleym

Hi guys. I just came home and noticed now that it also expels a white/transparent mucus. 😭 I guess that’s not good right?

Good morning guys. Mouth seems to be inside but the anemone seems curled up.

It looks better today, but that puffy shape is not great. Can you please check your parameters again and share? Also, do you have any other anemones in the tank?

Hi @bradleym ! Salinity is at 1.025 and the rest parameters are more or less the same. I have a bubble tip which doesn’t seem to be affected. The carpet anemone is in worst condition now 😔. Do you believe that there’s something that I could do? Every other coral seems to be doing well.

From what I see, there are three potential issues.

1. Your alkalinity is far too low, it should be at least 8. Please work on raising that slowly, it should take at least 24 hours to get up above 8 safely.

2. Your anemones could be fighting each other with chemicals. You should add a large amount of carbon as soon as possible to start absorbing those chemicals.

3. Your anemone may have an infection, would require treatment with fluconazole or similar. This usually best done in a quarantine tank if you have already established.

Based on the way it looks in the last picture, an infection is very possible. If you have access to the medications you should consider starting treatment immediately.
