Red Haddoni on DD

Nice looking nem, not so nice price.

Are these like other Haddoni, in terms of care and hardiness, or just a color variant?

Yes and no. ;)

If you get a healthy one, they are just like any other S. haddoni. The problem is with us, the red ones aren't as common, so we tend to ignore some warning signs that it isn't 100% healthy and purchase it anyways. (( not to say that they were anything wrong with the DD, just talking about them in general ))

I had one about a year ago -- lost it when I added a purple one that turned out to have an "infection" which took out the red one, and a tan one that I had had for 12+ years.

The red one,

When I had it with another S. haddoni that I had sold

That anemone on the DD looks much better than the last one I saw on there. If I was in the market for a $800 anemone, I'd be all over it.

Very cool. Here's what the one on DD looked like (one of two, they looked similar)

Thanks.

I haven't seen one on DD since Aug of 2009 when I picked up one (( pictured above with the red one )), this is how it looked when I first received it,

Yeah, I saw those tonight, liked the other one better -- less bare area near the mouth. If I ever set up another tank I will start looking at S. haddonis again (( I just have a green one in my 65, with no clowns )). Would be only for S. haddoni(s) and clowns, no other fish -- tired of losing fish to them.

Todd, which fish have you lost to your nems? I thought you previously had a decent track record, no?

For the amount of time I have been keeping them (( 15 years )), I have had a decent track record...

Yellow tang
Flameback angel
Golden angel
Multicolor angel (( though I believe it was on its way out, flukes ))
Mandarin
Yellow watchman goby.

I still have one, and I have noticed that since I sold the clown pair that was hosted by it, the other fish don't even care about the anemone. In the other 2 tanks, I have some rare/hard to keep dwarf angels (( one isn't officially named yet )) and I can't take the risk of losing them.
