red hair algae

In Memoriam
I am starting to have a red hair algae outbreak in my tank. I have not had any fish in the tank for the past three weeks and have been feeding my coral very little.
Does anyone has any homemade chemical that would kill the red hair algae but safe for my inverts and corals?
Thank you.

I do not generally recommend treating algae problems with chemicals, home made or commercial. Better options are reducing nutrients, especially phosphate, and if the algae is cyano, increasing water flow and decreasing organics (skimming/ozone/GAC). Cyano can also be treated with antibiotics as a last resort.

A first step would be to determine if this is cyanobacteria, or an actual algae. Can you describe it more?
