red planet light requirement

My red planet frag is current green with a hint of red. I have seen some amazing all red red planets and was wondering how high or low lighting do they need to get that coloration?

I currently have leds that are only running at 100% for 3 hrs of the day with the remainder ramping up from sunrise and down to sunset. Its placed mid level of a 21" deep tank with leds sitting about 5" above water surface.
 
I also have a red planet that I had issues with color, but mine was related to something other then color. I place mine mid level which I believe may have been to high. The guy I bought this Red Planet from I highly respects because of his immense knowledge of all types of corals told me when I bought it to place it lower in the tank. He said to much light will cause it to go from red to mostly green. Try lowering it a little and see how that works out.

General consensus from the 15+ posts I've read is the higher up they are the more red they will have.

This coral is a challenge for many, color wise. I have a frag that arrived a solid pastel orange from the vendor and I made the mistake of placing it too high under LEDs, so it washed out even more. After reducing the photo period from 11 to 8 hrs, I'm just starting to see recovery with rose/green at the top and some green at the base.
 
The more light the better from what I've seen. Low in the tank leads to the green base, I've seen several and the reder ones always seem to be near or at the top of the tank. I would move the coral up 6-8" to start and if it still doesn't color up, move it again in a month.
 
It was sitting mid level in a 21" deep tank. I moved it up about 4-5" which is the highest point I have in the tank. It's about 5" below water surface. Hopefully raising it higher will turn it that nice red.
 
I've got mine 18 inches from the light (6 T5s) and it's got good red and pink but I've lost the green so I don't think colour is purely a lighting issue.

Hope to move it up the tank soon and cross my fingers that it will bring back the green.
 
this is interesting.

when i bought the frag i got, the owner was keeping it under mh and it was almost entirely red. he said more light = red. less light = green. under t5s in my tank it grew out very nicely green with the red highlight and polyps.

i've since upgrade my tank and lights. under led's the red planet has turned entirely purple-ish red
 
My RP is up high about 6" below LEDs at 80%. PAR has never been measured, but it must be very high. It is a rapid grower and is 90% bright green in coloration, with very slight hints of red. Different than a few months ago when it was 100% green. It's been in my tank for about 2 years. I'll be experimenting with nutrients soon to see if it has any effect on the RP.
 
I also have 2 colonies of rp in the tank, one is directly under 2 AI sols and its bright red. The other is middle bottom of the tank and its red with a green base.
 
Nutrients probably has something to do with it as well. Low nutrients and high light both reduce the number of zoozanthale in the corals flesh, causing better coloration. I've seen many hig light tanks with minor nutrient issues that look great as well as many uln tanks with less wattage that look great too. Red planet seems to green out rather than brown out when conditions aren't ideal and won't really get to the brown stage but wither and die instead. So given water conditions are acceptable then lower light would be more green. I'm not sure but the red planets I recall in zeovit systems tend to be fairly red irregardless of where they are in the tank.

true RP will become more redish with higher par and the greenish base comes with a lower par . HTH.
