Unfortunately, IME, the flav's are one of the nastiest anthias species out there in terms of conspecific aggression. Our trio was fine for awhile, then picked each other off in true anthias fashion until one was left with half a tail that never grew back. We've kept trios of lyretails and blotched with no troubles for several years in the past.

To answer your question, Other than size and "authority", I can't really say that I recall the dominant fish looking much different than the others...

look for longer pectoral fins, tail streamers, and a more defined dorsal fin (usually long tip in the front in males)

they are more aggressive with each other (and similar species)

Thanks guys.

Atleast one of them has a long tip on its dorsal fin and i figured that was the male, hes a bit bigger also, ill look for it on the others also.
