red sea coral pro salt mix

i have been using it for a while now....love it!!!!

when i get my params checked at the LFS the owner is always very impressed with my PH...and calcuim levels

and since i started using it my corals are loving it

i mix mine for RODI in a brute with a heater and a couple PH's i let it mix for almost a day...at TANK temp....that way it's rdy to go directly in my tank....

i have done BIG water changes with it...like 60-70% will no ill effects

i find it to be very constient....just mix it in slowly

From the horses mouth:

The total mixing time once at the correct salinity does not need to exceed 3 hours, the longer you mix the higher the risk of taking in atmospheric C02 producing calcium carbonate which can be seen as a precipitate which can over time also effect your alkalinity.

:hmm4:

IMO, that is nonsense. Utter nonsense. Adding CO2 will drop the pH and will decrease the likelihood of precipitation.

I have heard so many excuses why the ALK can be off in this salt, it's ridiculous. Apparently that last one doen't even make sense.

The fact is you can get a bucket that has extremely high Alk, for who knows what reason.

I switched from b ionic (hard to get right now) to red sea pro

I read all the advice directly from red sea stating to mix at room temp, add slow, heat after fully mixed, mix the salt dry (rolling bucket around, flip upside down, ect)

-first batch was slightly hazy mixed up high Alk at 12.5dkh/ 500 calcium

- second batch precipitated like crazy. Mixed up at 9.5dkh/ 580 calcium

I would much rather go back to b ionic. It's more work, but crystal clear water and parameters are ALWAYS the same since you're mixing each component up separately.

I tried a sample 25 gallon pack from gettankedaquariums because he is local to me. It was pre-measured for 25 gallons at 35ppt and it was 3 parts total. It seemed like very nice salt, mixed up clear, but I can't afford it right now. 150 gallons of it is around $100 with shipping included.

Md has them on sale (big container) for $49.

just made my first batch, perfect salinty, calcium right at 450, everything was perfect. Mixed for 20 hours, we'll she how it goes in the tank. So far, so good.

I just tried regular red sea (blue bucket) for the first time for my zeo tank, because I need a NSW alk level.

This is one of the few salt brands I've used that mixes so close to advertised Alk and Ca specs. I didn't test Mg. Only complaint is it left a nasty brown residue in the bottom of my drum and a scum on the surface.

I'm not a big fan of most red sea products, but willing to give this salt a go.

I was using it and had great luck with it. I switched to H2O to get in on a group buy but I will likely go back to Red Sea when I need more.

I used it and wasnt a huge fan of it. The alk was too high for my like and my corals didnt like it, even though i did a small 10% water change

I was using tropic Marin pro but tried red sea pro, and I a tremendous difference in my corals. The high alk is what I needed so a lot depends on your system. I do recommend it though.

Longer mixing time will not cause precipitation. It's as Randy explains it. Nonsense form the manufacturer's rep yet. Extra borate alkalinity isn't helpful either.

Might be an ok salt but any salt claiming to be the best or better than others is relying on marketing strategy and sometimes obfuscatory gibberish posing as scientific fact coupled with a higher price to imply higher quality ; not content. Pick a salt that mixes to alk , calc and mag levels you target ( see the sticky at the top of the forum). Decide if you like those with added vitamins or not and find one yo u can get easily and mix to your liking consistently from batch to batch.

Carlos 413, how is the tank now after using this salt for the last couple of months?

I been using it for over a year now. I started to use it on my old 55 and now in my 75. The tank is doing well all the red slime is gone, got rid of it with plan old water changes. I am dosing seachems 2 part fusion.
