Red Sea Coral Pro Salt?

What are everyone's thoughts on Red Sea Coral Pro salt? I just bought a 175g bucket from DFS and used about 10g worth for a water change. I'm not sure I like it. Left a brown residue in all my buckets and I had trouble getting all of it to mix with my RODI water even with a powerhead and letting it sit all day. I have been using Reef Crystals since I started keeping corals and never had any problems. I wanted to try Red Sea because of the higher calcium levels it claims to have. Anyone else using this salt?

I have been using it now for about 6 months exclusively and know many other club members that use it.

I can only comment coming from IO and Reef Crystals but I think it IMHO dissolves easier and has a more consistent mixture. The testing I did between two tanks seemed that the Red Sea had better readings. Being the difference in the tanks its always so hard to tell. I tell my self the results are better. And for the price I have no complaints

To get it to mix well i have to warm up the RO water first, then mix in half stir wait and then dump the other half in. I then let it sit for about 15 hours before i use it.

On occasion I get a brown sludge at the bottoms of my bucket depending on how long i leave it mix for. If you get a darker bucket you wont notice. ;) From my understanding its caused by the calcuim in the salt mix

I have blue buckets that i mix my salt in, I use "instant ocean" and "deep sea salt", both leave a brown residue in the bottem of the bucket. I don't know why this happens all i can tell you is that your not alone.

I use Reef Crystals, and since I dose 2 part, I really couldn't care less about the slightly lower calcium levels...I just bump it up with the calcium suppliment. I use RC for the elevated magnesium levels. IMO, consistency is the most important thing...so I'd just pick a salt that you like and can live with, and stick with it. changing creates drastically different values in your new salt water when you do water changes, and your corals just aren't accustomed to dealing with that. If RC works for you with your regimen, why mess with a good thing? That's just my 2 pennies.

I get the same brown residue as well and I use RC. Not a big deal for me because I am so paranoid that something bad from who knows where will land in an empty bucket and contaminate it that I clean my buckets with RO water and a brush before I will use them.

I found this thread last night...I am still reading through all 72+ pages.

The more I read, the more I think I am just going to stick with Reef Crystals. Seems like some people using RS Coral Pro were having phosphate/algae issues after switching to RS from another brand. Also the alk reading on RS seem to be lower than RC which makes me nervous. I think TJ had this problem when he tried it out as well? SeaChem seems to be a popular brand at the moment also. More pondering to do I suppose.

I have been using this for years. The alk is actually in line with what Natural Sea Water is. Mine usually tests around 9 - 10 when I test new water.

RC is my salt of choice. I does Calcium as well, and eveything has been rather consistant.

I'm not going to fix what isn't broken =p
