Red Sea Max Filtration

I had a leak last night on my 34 RedSea Max and found that it was caused by a filter bag I had put in there with activated carbon. It slowed the flow too much to the return pumps.

I took the filter bag out and replaced it with some filter material that had activated carbon on it but that too caused an overflow within 45 minutes...

Is this normal?

Does anyone else add additional filtration on their RedSea Max?

Any advice?

Yes I run chemi-pure elite in my RedSea Max, what you need to do is get yourself a media basket. Run blue bonded filter pad on top to collect waste, then have your carbon bag below the filter pad. Trick is to keep them seperated' and suspend the carbon bag so flow can still make it through the filtration chambers.
Google Stevie T media racks and you will get the idea.
