The mandarin was one of the main motivations for my 90g tank. The issue really comes down to size. No matter what you do, the RSM cannot support enough of a pod population to be self sustaining in the presence of a mandarin. Since most will only eat live pods that means you are either spending $25-$50/mo on supplemental live pods and running a breed out tank, or your mandarin will starve. I have been running for almost a year now in my RSM, I tried adding a HOB fuge, and a sump in addition. While I do have an excellent pod population, it is not enough in the RSM. With an established 75g tank or larger properly stocked with Live Rock and a fuge, this shouldnt be a problem, in fact the mandarin could almost be an afterthought. Pods are pretty good breeders, and as long as they have enough space to create a sufficiently large population, they will take care of themselves.

snake plissken & Iostream - You are absolutley right about the Mandarins.
Here is an article that might interest you about the Mandarin Breeding

Mandarin Breeding.

I'm still a long way from getting the species I want, so for now, I better start thinking on snails and crabs

BTW , just came from a lfs, Flame Angelfish $110.00 USD,

Today the NO3, NO3, and Ammonia, still decreasing.
Hope in about 10 days I can start adding some inverts

My LFS is closing was told they would be open till the end of SEPT. but they haven't been open since last weekend. The owner got caught up in a million dollar marijuana smuggling ring. I am now going to have to start driving 30-45 minutes each way to any of the other shops in the area.

brycek - we had info. on it in here a while back when it was released in Europe. Here's a repost of a few pics. I can't answer any questions on it myself & don't even know if/when it will show up here. There's also an RSM 130D - our tank with a few very minor improvements.

Thanks Reefmack, that is alot more than what I had found other than roughly the cost well over a thousand bucks I don't have that much to play with right now. Anyways gotta run am on my laptop my desktop just started rebooting itself continously. So I have to go figure it out.

Arreola;
Don't even think about a Flame Angel until your tank has fully matured live rock. This is their principal source of food-just added my FA 2 days ago & all is well in my 10 mo old RSM. Be Patient Sir!
Best of Luck! Jerry

The dwarf angels are fairly hearty, and while they will pick food from live rock, they do not require it. Flames and Coral Beauty especially do well with prepared foods. Potters angels are a slight exception because they tend to take a long time to come around to prepared foods (some never do at all). My Potters took a couple of months before it would eat anything I added to the tank. Once started it eats anything I put in. I do recommend feeding dried nori sheets a couple of times a week.

I agree on the Flame Angels - the small one I put in my little 9g "grow out tank" shortly after setup also eats like a pig anything I put in the tank. I've never heard of the Flames needing mature live rock, unless you want one that eats coral polyps - mine doesn't, thank goodness. The Flame will go in the RSM when the Foxface gets too big (unless the Flame gets too big first).

My new fans finally arrived today from red sea. They didn't take very long to install since I had left the hood disassembled from when the fans went earlier in the week. I had been running just a blue actinic bulb over the tank, I almost forgot what my tank was actually supposed to look like.

HI all.
After a bunch of phone calls and visits to lfs, I found a lfs that have 6 RSM up and running. the mantainance guy will come tomorrow to test the water, and see if we can add someting this weekend.

I will let you all know how it goes.

I am planning on getting a RSM some time in 2008 (would like to hold out for the 250, but won't be able to).
I am having a hard time finding any difference between the 130 and the 130D...can anyone tell me one (or more) differences?
Thanks!

sprintermike, all I know about the differences is a little further up on this page primarily the digital lighting timer vs. the current analog style. Also it has a new styled protein skimmer and a redesigned surface skimmer.

Hi sprintermike and welcome to Reef Central and our RSM Club! From the last picture above, it also looks like longer inlet pipes on the 2 powerhead pumps. I'm not sure if the skimmer itself is any different, or if it just has a new type cup on it - the"MAX foam adjuster". My guess is it's the same skimmer & just the new cup design. Too early to tell if these minor changes make any great differences, but other than these changes, and the ones mentioned by brycek, the 130 & 130D are the same.

It has been about six hours or so since I got my fans installed and the hood reassembled and WOW my fish seem much happier(if that is possible) and my few corals that I do have look do be doing very well. I have a question maybe someone can help me with. Is it normal for anomes to change color? Last year when I bought mine I was told it was a bubble tip anemone it was an off white color. Over this almost years time frame it has doubled if not tripled in size and the color has gone to a brownish purple.
