Red Sea Reefer XL-425 Owners

Do you wish you had went with the XL-525?


I'm on the fence about which one to get.

I've been perfectly happy with my 425XL, but I guess the extra 12" in length would make the tang police a little less concerned with your stocking. Lighting will be a little more expensive for the 525 - if you go with LEDs, I'm assuming you'd need two fixtures, rather than one.

In the other hand, if you can afford it, in this hobby it's always better to go bigger.

Either way, I think the Red Sea Reefers are great tanks.

I love my 425 but it's not the next generation one I thought I was buying. Red Sea used the same part numbers and you won't know what's inside till you open it. So make sure you know what your buying. Red Seas solution was not very helpful

Can you provide any more detail about the issue you had? How long ago did you get the tank?

I was expecting the new model with the updated sump and the stand with the self leveling feet not the older model. My option was to have the store reorder and hope they get the new version then drive two hours to return the one I have I didn't feel it was worth the risk since I had already uncrated everything.
