Red sea tanks

How many people have these red sea tanks? I was thinking of upgrading to one but one of the local stores here was saying they could build me a little better one with a larger sump.

I love my Reefer 425XL. After 25 years in the hobby, this was my first tank with a sump, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I wanted to be as automated and "clean" as I could, so having an ATO, skimmer, chiller, biopellet reactor and dosing system all under the stand fit the bill!

I have the S-650. Beautiful tank. Nice clean lines, no cables on show, quality finish everywhere. It is a nice looking piece of furniture in my living room.

I have a RSR 250 and also love it. I don't have room for a separate sump or fish room so everything has to be in the stand for me and the Reefer look and quality ticks my boxes. I am planning a second tank and at this point expect it will be a Reefer also, probably 525XL.

Lots of folks have red sea reefer tanks.

I'm not sure about getting a "better" tank from LFS. Supposedly their build quality is really high. You could definitely get a different or larger tank for much less money though.

Thanks for the responses! I think I'd rather go with the red sea tanks than my LFS. Better just to purchase and pick up. I don't really care if the sump is on the smaller side or where the overflow is. If I go with the 250 it's not much bigger than my 40 gallon breeder. The 350 gives a bit more options on fish but then more money. Nevertheless both are going to need more equip. upgrades, etc.
Probably hold off for a year and maybe the tank price will drop or be on sale.

my wife has a redsea 170.... the tank is ok, the top off is waaaay to small of a container. not bashing Red Sea but I think you only are paying the Money because its a "RedSea." With the amount of tanks that are out/ coming out like the nuvo series and waterbox, id go a different route. We are seriously thinking of selling this and switching to the nuvo 100 ext

Red Sea has it advantages, shipped to your front of the house, the price point is better than the custom tanks that I have looked at. Clean and simple.

I have a red sea p500 and for the money it's great. I love the simplicity of the stand and the finish is great. Its easy to clean and looks very modern. I like the sump as well and all the pipes included. Everything just works.

Thanks for complicating things. ..lol. Unfortunately the other options aren't available here.

:celeb1:. We like her tank it's just I think it's over priced compared to the other ones. And the nuvo is ultra clear glass. Her red sea isnt

I have a 750XXL Reefer. They are very expensive, but I think they are worth it. The quality of the build is incredible. The sump is a higher quality tank than I think most of my previous display tanks lol. I also like that there is a lot of room for electronics etc. The biggest complaint I have is that all of the plumbing is metric pvc, as they are not a US company. Not a big deal as long as you don't need to make any changes, but kind of annoying otherwise. You have to order fittings etc from somewhere like Amazon. It's definitely the cleanest quietest system I have had.

I have an RSR 250 and use the Neptune ATK to keep the stock ATO full from my remote RODI reservoir. The ATO lasts ~3 days but as I refill it automatically once daily I never need to top it up.

I'm sure there are lots of good quality products out there but personally I am happy with my RSR.

I have a Red Sea 450xl and I like it. I got it last May. My old tank was a 90 gallon and this one is a bit wider. The sump is adequate. The auto topper broke so I don't use it anymore but filling the AT compartment was somewhat of a bother. Mindy is black and I like the look. I am doing a soft coral tank. My prior tank was a LPS tank but most of those died wwithin a few months after the transfer.

Thanks again for the replies. Sure a lot of bigger reefer tanks! Probably just go with the 350 if that's what i go with. As far as the only downfall it's mainly the ATO?

we were actually thinking about doing that with the ATO. We like the tank and the stand but I think you are paying extra compared to other brands just because its a Red Sea

Only other thing we had an issue with is the plumbing. you HAVE to use their plumbing. and if you crack it or break it from over tightening which is pretty common, then you have to order direct from redsea. we cracked the return pump plumbing and it took 2 weeks to get a new one.

There are a few re-sellers in the states who can get it to you much quicker, you just need to know the part #. I had the same issue, as I accidentally cracked the return piping when I was trying to create my manifold, and was able to get a part delivered from a company in Arizona within 2 days.

The ATO is okay. It's gravity fed. I prefer to use my Apex to do it but for this system didn't want to run an RO line to the reservoir. As long as you blow the line out occasionally it doesn't clog up, I just run a hose from my fresh water holding tank in the garage to fill it a couple times a week.

If you have your tank in a location where you can get an RO/DI under it or run the line to either top off or keep the reservoir topped off, I would do it just out of convenience so you don't have to fill it yourself.
