red slime with bubbles

i was checking my tank and noticed on two of my rocks what looks like red slime with little bubbles inside, is this bad for the tank, can i take it out, do i need to take rock out and clean it, please advice, thanks

That kind of film is common in new tanks. How long has the setup been running? Sometimes, the slime will go away on its own.

Sounds like cyano. How much flow and skimming do you have? What are your nitrates and phosphates reading? What's your water source, tap or ro/di?

its been running foe a month, and i have some fish in there with some crabs and a shrimp, so just leave it alone then????

just tested and amo 0, trite 0 trate 2 (since its color coded sheet it looks like in between 0 and 5 ppm) ph is 8.4, cant test phosphates because i dont have a kit for it, but i will get it soon, water wich i started with is r o water but did a water change and got new water from lfs, i am planning right now a refugium and will installe it in a couple of days, i ordered a couple of hydor koralias for more flow in my tank will arrive on saturday, my skimmer is a seaclone POS sometimes it works and the it stops i will get another skimmer soon. tank is a 46 gallon

Theres a product called Red Slime Remover, its Reef safe. I put it in my tank and it cleared up in 2 days!!!!......be sure to mix it with tank water in a cup first

The extra flow you are getting will help. Could just be a diatiom/hair algae bloom since the tank is so new. Those do go away on their own so no worries. Since you mentioned it was red, that sounds more like cyano. I would just let the tank do it's thing and monitor it. Most likely it will go away.

If you can post a pic of it, it would really help in ID'ing it.

thanks drum, dont have a camera but it looks like slime and theres bubbles inside the slime and the color is red, theres just two little patches on two of my rocks, when i get a camera will post photos, well what about using a turkey baster to suck it out???

You can suck it out with a turkey baster, yes. Any little bit of manual extraction will help.

thanks will suck it out, hey drum, what is your opinion on using lfs seawater, on sunday i went to lfs store and saw a truck delivering seawater, is it good for my aquarium

The "bubbles" is just oxygen given off by the algae (usually late in the light phase). Probably just a bloom as it's an immature tank...God only knows I know. It will take care of itself as longs as:

1. Water chems are in line
2. Water change out is appropriate
3. Use skimmer or decent sized refugium
4. Phosphate remover (or reactor)
