Red Spot Glass Cardinalfish

Anyone have any experience with Red Spot Glass Cardinalfish? I found an old blog from 2010 that said it's difficult to raise in a home aquarium. I'm considering getting 5 of them from LiveAquaria for my 150g, plenty of live rocks and with no aggressive existing fish. Would appreciate hearing from those who have had them, good and bad. Thanks!

I bought 5 from liveaquaria about a month ago. They are super healthy and eating well. I did the similar research before I purchased them. It was hard to raise in a home aquarium but liveaquaria was able to do so successfully and their stock is aquacultured if I understand it correctly (maybe wrong on this). Anyway, the ones I got are always schooling around and out. They will be a great addition to your tank. Only thing is they are fairly small and you many need more than 5. I am thinking about getting more myself.

Thanks for the info Leicalux! Did you quarantine the cardinals before adding them to your display tank? I've heard good things about LiveAquaria and this will be my first purchase.

To be honest I have a QT tank but I don't put any fish I get from them in there.
I put mine stright into the main and never had one die on me or get sick.

I've honestly gave up buying LFS fish now and just considering buying more online even if it cost me little more.

I ordered ten from DD and was quickly down to 1. They each just stopped eating one by one and died. I think they had something internal going on. Unfortunately I didnt QT because I figured it was DD so they should be fine and so I wasn't able to treat them. The remaining red spot that I have, has been healthy and eats well.

If I were to order more I'd definitely treat with prazi pro and metro as a precaution. I also bought some Rod's Food fish eggs. Fish that aren't eating other foods will often still eat eggs and then you can transition them to other foods.

I know there were fatalities with red spot cardinals a few years ago. I'm hoping their survival has improved now, especially since it cost more to purchase and ship from DD. I've had varying success with all the LFS around here. In my opinion, they seem to be all about the same fish-wise.

nothing has magically changed them... they are still hard shippers and hard to keep in aquaria long term.

They are always selling on Divers Den, so I'm surprised that there still isn't more feedback on them long term.

I didn't QT mine since they were the first fishes that goes into the tank. I got a yellow accessor and an exquisite wrasse at the same time. All are doing well now and no sign of issue....

Purchased a lot of 5 last week and the red spot cardinals arrived on Friday. They were separately packed very well in multiple plastic bags inside an insulated foam container with heat packs. The cardinals appeared healthy and I fed them live brine in the QT tank. No other fish were there. They ate well until Tuesday when I found 2 of the 5 dead. LiveAquaria gave me a refund for the two and the remaining 3 appear to be well so far. They don't seem to care for flake food.

I like the idea of a number of schooling fish, but am now wondering if cardinals and chromis are hearty. I don't want to keep throwing good money on an idea which isn't feasible for a reef tank. I welcome your input..........

Chromis can be healthy but they will kill each other and you will eventually end up with one in your tank.

I started with 9 in my tank and they dwindled down to three. Today, the two that occupy the center of the tank pick on the third where he has to hide all day.

Anthia might be better if your tank is bigger I would guess.
