Hi All,

I just got my 1 liter bag of rotifer diet today from Reeds and wondered how you guys typically store it? Once you open their vaccuum sealed bag what do you do? Do you dump it into a couple cleaned water bottles? I am planning on keeping it in the fridge, not freezing small portions, and re ordering every 4 months reguardless if out or not. Also whatever container I use, how should I clean it? Sterilize water in the conainer then use dechlorinator?

Any ideas/suggestions would be great.

Scott

IMO no worries about putting it in a non stelized bottle if your just using it as a feed. Couple water bottles would be excellent. FWIW, you can request it in bottles. Next time your ready, PM or email me, and I'll have it bottled for you :)

Freeze what you don't use in 2 weeks or so. This stuff can go bad fast and your rotifers will suffer. I try and keep around 4oz in the fridge and freeze the rest. Take a picture of the color now and in a few months later. It will go from bright green to dark olive geen.

If I freeze the rest, is there a problem thawing and refreezing it or do you freeze it in smaller quantities.

Gresham what is your opinion of freezing vs not freezing. I know Matt (fishboy42) here does not freeze it with no issues but reorders every 4 months as their is a shelf life of about 5 months? I also will keep in mind the next time I order to get it in a bottle.

Freezing will hold the natritional value longer IMO. Refreezing can lead to problems, so I'd just freeze it in smaller portions right off the bat.

At 4 months, it's nutritional value is still pretty darn good, so your plan doesn't sound bad to me.

What 's in the rotifer diet? Most algaes do not freeze too well. 3600 I freeze in 100ml containers as soon as I get them as that's what I use in a week.
