Anyone have any opinions on this controller. Reasonably priced and includes everything to monitor temp, PH and control up to eight devices right out of the box.
I have one sitting here waiting for me to get my new stand and tank set up.
I like the fact that the forums are run by the same guy who designs/makes the system. He's willing to help you with codes for it and also is open to coming up with new additions as people ask. The amount of new modules over the last 12 months have been amazing.
When the new tank is set up and running I'll post a real review with pictures of it running.
It's a fairly good deal but it's based on hardcore DIY'er technology and is basically a one-person company. I wouldn't spend on it unless you know what you're getting in to and I don't think it's completely appropriate to compare it to closed-source commercial controllers.
I wasn't looking for comparisons , just opinions of those that have used the ReefAngel controller. There are plenty of other threads and forums that compare controllers.
I've been using an RA controller since January and am very happy with it. At one point I would have only recommended it to someone who was a little tech savvy and willing to spend the time to learn the coding. Not that it was overly difficult but it did take some time to learn how to use it if you wanted to customize it. That changed several months ago when they put a setup wizard in the software. It made it pretty easy to setup and tweak. Don't be frightened by their size. The owner is extremely responsive and helpfully as are several people on their message board. The owner spent an hour or two remotely connected to my computer on a Friday night to help me troubleshoot an issue that I was having. He also went to great lengths to figure out how to get my analog led drivers to work with the controller.
Thanks for the insight, I'm in IT so I have no problems with anything technical. I already checked out the forum which looks real helpful. Definitely like the units out of the box capability.
I like the open source software, the great support from the dev and others, and the cheap parts. A new mainboard which is most of the guts is only $50.
I bought mine used off of Craigslist. The guy I bought it from complained that it did nothing but click so it was probably broken. It wasn't of course, but it is definitely a RTFM device.
