Reef Brite LED's - Now Taking Orders!

Hi Jeremy!

I have a 72" Hamilton fixture w/ 3x250 MHDE plus 4x96 blue power compacts.
I want to repace/ quit running the energy hog pc's and replace them with reef brite blue led's. It is hoisted from the ceiling sitting inside a open top canopy (a wood skirt aroud the outside basically).

I saw joy from reef brite at the mmc conference and said i would need 2 x 30" units. She told me to go to premium aqautics for the purchase. in your experience would this recomendation seem right. Jake adams was there and also directed me to this product. Jake said to keep the halides but upgrade to reef-brites for actinic.

I see from pictures in this post below people mount them right to the outside of existing fixtures.

Would it be possible to retrofit them inside this hamilton fixture, or would the protective u.v. glass lens hinder the [par too much.]

What would you recommend for this set up? I want enough actinic supplementation to replace the p.c.'s

T.I.A.

There is no update on the dimmable transformer yet. I should hear more at MACNA as we get some time to spend with ReefBrite there here in a week or so.

Chuck, what is the footprint of the tank you're covering, front to back measurement? Most likely you would be just fine with a single strip of RB's, unless the tank is 36"+ front to back. I would keep them on the outside of the fixture, so the output is not hindered by any additional shielding.

Jeremy;thanks for the response,
the footprint is 24" wide by 72" long : AGA tank-2 center braces, standard 180gal.
would (2) 30" units be enough? or 2 36" units ?
what would you recommend. Could i get away with just running the halides and the new reef brite led's. or maybe run one set of power compacts- not both....
how many watts does one 30" unit consume/run off.?
thanks again, chuck.

Hi Chuck, you could start by just running 2 x 30" strips down the front, slightly angled toward the middle of the reef, to get the color on the corals. Then if you feel like you need more after that you can always run a second row down the back.

The 30" modules consume right around 22w - 23w total, per module.

jeremy ... i am setting up a 65 gallon with a 250 radium in the middle in a lumen max elite ... i was gonna run 2 36" t5s 1 ati blue plus and one geisemen actinic for dusk till dawn setting only... but i am now considering one of the 36" rb instead as my day and night light... would this be comparable to the t5s looks wise? brighter or less bright? my tank is 36x18x24..... will be in canopy with inside painted white .... heres a pic for an idea

The 36" RB is going to give you more light output than what the 2 x 39w (1 blue plus and 1 pure actinic) would give you. On top of that, you're probably going to get a little more fluorescence as well.

The 36" blues are $219.99. These are in stock and available to ship immediately. Give me a call at 317-895-9005 and we can get an order put in for you.

Thanks,
Jeremy

What would you reccomend for a 100 gallon mixed reef, wanting to grow SPS up to around 18" down, softies and LPS below that? Wave tank measuring 48" x 18-24"(narrowest to widest) x 24" in LxWxH.

I would do the 5 module setup and use the brackets to mount with. If it's predominately sps in the middle to top, you will definitely benefit from teh 5 module setup.

Little?? Holding back are we?...lol. Travis, your corals will GLOW like they were under a black light...especially with the blue strip by itself. I have had mine for about 3 weeks and still am blown away when compared to the blue+ & super actinic T5's...

I was thinking getting either the following:

2 50/50 48"
1 Blue 48"
or

1 Blue 48"
1 white 48"
1 50/50 48"

What would be the better combo

I would personally do the 2 x 50/50 and 1 x blue module. The all white module is pretty hard to set off, and I would recommend doing 2 x blue module for every single white module you use.

Sorry, that was meant for Purelife. For your setup I would recommend doing 4 modules, no more than 5. However, 5 would be more suited for a 24" width tank. The mixture would be dependent upon the coloration you're trying to achieve.
