Reef Brite LED's - Now Taking Orders!

For getting that coloration in a 4 module setup I would recommend the following:

2 x Blue
1 x 50/50
1 x White

here is that set up dimmed down half way these things are to strong to run all the way up

What would you reccomend for a 100 gallon mixed reef, wanting to grow SPS up to around 18" down, softies and LPS below that? Wave tank measuring 48" x 18-24"(narrowest to widest) x 24" in LxWxH.

That is the same size as my tank but mine is a 72 bow

Tank looking fantastic Reffer831, I am sure with that light you should be able to keep SPS all the way from sand bed.

It's really dependent upon the depth of the tank, and placement of that particular species of Acropora and it's light requirements. Just as a general rule, I would say around 8".

Jeremy what would you recommend for a 40 breeder?
I'm assuming I could use nothing but these and still be able to have pretty much any coral or a clam?

I'm new to the LED craze.

I was thinking 3 36":

2 50/50
1 blue

or should I do one of each?

I just had one of my triad ballasts go bad on my retro 4x54w T5 setup. Since reading about these for the last few days, I'm excited to order them and pitch those 2 T5s. My problem is that I'm not sure which colors/bulbs to go with. I need to order 2 new bulbs for the remaining T5s which still work, and the LED unit. I'd like it to be more blue, my T5s for the couple years have been geared toward growth with not so much blue but I'd like to shift more toward fluorescence and color and just something different to look at. Eventually I'd like to just go 100% LED - and these could be the ones I do it with.

Thanks. Do you think these Reef Brites would work for my scenario below?
I have a 180-gallon acrylic tank with a 10" wide acrylic center brace. I have two halides in reflectors over the two openings and nothing over the center brace. My canopy to water surface measures 16". I need a third light source in the center of my tank, which is not a halide, because of heat. I'm trying to figure out which LED setup would be best. Either a DIY maybe with optical lenses to help penetrate through the acrylic brace or these Reef Brites. If you think Reef Brites would work, do you recommend I get 2x 15" and run them in the middle of the canopy from front to back or would I be better off running them from side to side in the middle of the canopy? Or, are Reef Brites not best for my particular scenario? Thank you

@ryshark, in my opinion the RB's would not be the best option suite for that application. You need something with a lot of penetration to get through that acrylic. Not that the RB's wouldn't get through it, but I'm assuming you want something more like a halide? In that case, I would look at the Ecoxotic 50w Cannon LED's. They will penetrate through that center section a lot better than what the RB's would. HTH!

3 x 36" modules spaced apart just a little bit is what I would recommend. 4 modules would be better if you are keeping all sps/clams though. As far as the mixture goes I think the 2 x 50/50 and 1 x blue would look very nice.

So you will be using 2 x T5's and then 2 x RB modules? What size tank is it going on and what are you keeping in the tank?

I think I would use a couple of Aquablue Specials, or an Actinic White and Aquablue Special, and then an all blue RB module.

Jeremy that is killing combo!

Have two blue special and 1 actinic white on hand, if you feel two blue special are too cold you can thow in 1 actinic white.

Or if you want a bit of shimming go for 1 blue + 1 50/50 + 2 blue special, it will be nice looking as well. Bonus is you can run dawn & dust on one 50/50, that is one of my favorite view time of my tank, the dynmic looking is amazing :-)

Ryan, what do you mean by killing combo? So you're saying get a 50/50 and a blue rb? Then get the actinic white with the specials?

The combo suggested by Jeremy will be insane looking.

What I would do is a 50/50 and a all blue RB, mix with 2 ATI blue special or 1 blue special / 1 ATI blue plus for bluer look. The 50/50 provide some shimming and warm tone, you probably don't need actinic white.

So if I get one blue module, and one 50/50, both 48" wouldn't this be a lot of light for a 55gal? Could I just get rid of the T5s entirely? How long do these fixtures last?
