Reef Chili In Automatic Feeder?

I have a controller so I would program the return pump to shut off a few minutes before my auto feeder turned on just to prevent this.

It is pretty fine stuff.

The directions tell you to put it in a bottle with water
and shake it for 3 seconds first (helps to make it sink)

I haven't fed with reef chili like that.. but I place a feeding ring just below the automatic feeder. The food falls into the ring.. this gives it some time to soak and sink.

I only use an auto feeder when I am away.. not for the usual/daily feedings.

If it is put in the tank dry it will just float. Even after mixing well with water and injecting it below the surface there is a lot that still just comes to the top and floats. It might work better if you leave your return pump on and turn off the skimmer. This way the stuff that stays on top will be pulled through the sump and out the pump. It might disperse it in the water column better.

It won't work in an automatic feeder, but either way it's something that can really mess up your water quality if you overfeed. Why is it that you're feeding it in the first place? If it's to feed your corals, none of them really need it either way... The only people I know that use it have ULN vodka/zeovit dosed SPS systems and need to feed to make up for the water that's too clean :)

My paly's seem to love the stuff. My peppermint shrimp REALLY love it. I was spraying some in their general direction and they came right up the the bottle rather quickly, as if attacking it. They really come out of hiding as soon as I put some in the tank.

My tank is definitely not ULN and my coral (especially SPS) growth exploded after I started using Reef Chili. That was enough to prove to me that fish poop and the Rods food I was feeding wasn't enough for the corals.
