Reef dosing and the aquamedic pumps

I have it set at one drip per sec. No float switch and no timer. Its drawing from a 5 gallon jug with kalk . It comes with a hose for two part dosing. I ordered the high volume tubing set so I can get it all setup properly, but it works fine right now.

Ok, here's my experience this week with this pump and a certain online vendor.

I recently ordered the Aquamedic Reefdoser Twin from Marine Depot. It arrived yesterday via UPS ground, and today I went to set it up. I spent an hour and a half mounting it above my sump, cutting and running the tubing for both channels to dose 2 part calcium and buffer solution in my SPS tank. I get everything set finally and begin to program the unti only to find that the second channel will not pump any fluid. I tried replacing all the tubing to no avail, and swapped the tubing from channel 1. Nothing worked. Apparently the santoprene tubing must be bad as I tried swapping them out ( left for right) and then it worked.

So I call customer service at MD only to be told that my options are to send it back to them, AT MY EXPENSE, they will test it and determine if I should get a new one, or they can charge my CC for another and ship me a new unit now, then I can return the bad unit for credit. Either way, I am dishing out money that I shouldn't have to. I paid for a brand new unit, and got a defective one. The burden should not be on me. I should have listened to people on RC and gone with Premium Aquatics. Lesson learned:mad2:

Needless to say, I will be returning this unit for credit, and will then make the purchase elsewhere.

sp3000 sucked... every time water would get low it would stop pumping.. then I had to restart.. even with check valve... couldnt draw water 20 inches....

waste of money... went with a 75 gph phd..

I use nautilus 2 from innovative aquatics. It is working great. :)guaranteed not to back siphon. i was going to use the aquamedic but was a little dissuade about replacing the pump if use heavily as it is said on the product description.

my aqua medic gets screwy if you accidently push the wrong comonation of keys ( 1st and 3rd kety you press to go into the programming.. but if you push 1 and 2 the screen goes wild and never starts to pump again untill you unplug it

okay, i'm thinking about adding a dosing pump to my setup. it looks as though it will make it alot easier to maintain the levels if i calculate it right. i was using the calculator to figure out how much i would need to dose the esv b-ionic 2 part and got the figure. i would need to dilute this with ro/di water. now my question is, does the amount of water added to the solution make a difference?

I might have to try the nautilus 2 then. I figure I can handle doing the mag dosing on my own since I never need much.

How much do you evap per day?

i evap a little over a gallon a day. my 5 gallon jug of water lasts me about 3 days. I should get something bigger, but i get lazy haha.

I highly recommend the Liter meter 3. I've used it for 3 1/2 years without a single problem.

I'm thinking of adding a few pumps for a 2 part application. Of course it's pricier, but well worth it based on it's proven reliability.

Hey..my thread is back...haha

Just an update..I got an aquamedic and Im dosing DIY 2 part. Working great ..i love it.

The LiterMeter 3 is just too much for my budget right now.

What do you guys think about the Innovative Aquatics Nautilis II or 3A???

About half the cost of the LM3.

ive had both, the litermeter is worth more than double, i got a used one for 200 here on rc, keep an eye out.

the litermeter is the best purchase i have made on my reef in a long time.

B-Ionic. Even on the small amount needed for my 18g nano, it still doses it 150 times per day...it's simply amazing.

Nautilus 2 can be a topoffwasser doser or a 2 part....doesnt back siphon and wont pump to much out....

only problem is that if the power goes out it has to be restarted so if you are out of town you arent getting CA and ALK into your tank...but there are ways around this...besides this is the worst that can happen

Nautilus has kept my tank at exactly 1.026 salinity for a month now.....ph never fluctuates more than .07 points

for me it is the best 170 dollars i have spent on my tank...bar none

I have the aquamedic triple doser on my tank for kalk/top off, and homemade two part. I picked it up used here on RC a while back and so far I would say it has been a sound reef investment.

Good luck.

Garrett.
