Reef Epoxy Question.

I read on here somehere someone was talking about a type of epoxy stick that could be bought at HomeDepot or the like that is the same thing as 'reef epoxy'. Anyone know what I should look for?

Im talking about the kind of epoxy to glue rocks together :)

Thanks!

I've also heard there's a specific brand from Home Depot that many people use, but I can't remember the name. I've been using an epoxy putty from Ace hardware. I can't remember exactly what it's called, but I believe it's the only Ace brand epoxy putty that's waterproof. It's a blue stick, but it cures white. I think the big things to look for are that it's waterproof, cures under water, and does not have any metals added to it. There are quite a few that have metal in the epoxy, but it seems to be pretty clearly stated on either the front or back of the package.

Aquamend, that's the stuff! There seem to be quite a few people who use it, so definitely sounds like your best bet. I just don't have a Home Depot real close, and I've never seen it at Lowes.

There are a number of brands of epoxy that are designed in the same manner. The stuff is a stick with the two parts of the epoxy wrapped around each other, you cut the size of the piece you need and mush the stuff until the two parts are one. This type of epoxy tents to harden quickly so make sure you have what you need ready before you start to mix the stuff. They all will work fine. If you go to the plumbing area of any hardware store they will have some sort of version of this and they will all say they can be used under water.

The only problem with this epoxy is they it is not real sticky so it can be tough to use to glue down frags and corals. Thick superglue gel seems to work best for this.

Thinking about your reason for using this epoxy, you can use even the liquid two part epoxies as long as it ways it works under water. These are sticky and will hold the rock together better. You can cover the glue joint with sand.

I made the mistake of putting a red corris wrasse in my 150G tank. If I do not glue every rock down, he will turn it over. I have used thick super glue and epoxy. The thick super glue will stick very quickly, but does not seem to hold very well. That wrasse can pop the rocks apart. Aquamend from Home Depot, does not cure very quickly and seems to slip off of the rock. When it cures it turns into what seems to be concrete. I use the stuff allot at the moment. My fish trap will be finished this weekend and the coris wrasse gets a new home.
Good Luck
