Reef keeper 2 JUNK

Phil without a dought if you catch the sale dans having on the AC units it is the best price ever !!!! get em while they last ..lol

Erik, you are going to love the difference. Waaay more versatile piece of hardware. I especially like the compatibility with Tunzes via the aquasurf.

I held onto my RK2 for my auxillary tank downstairs. However in the future I wouldn't put a piece of DA equipment on my main tank. I am still convinced it was responsible for my 180 crash.

Well I just got off the phone with SC and ordered the ACjr. Glad Eric's RK took a dump (sorry it crapped out on you Eric) because I found out SC had AC JR for a great deal. I've searched the net for the past 3 weeks or so and they were able to beat any prices I found. Now I just have to wait till it gets here. If anyone from the east side or southeast is heading to Salty Critter later today or tomorrow, let me know if you could pick this up. If your thinking about getting one, like Disco said "best price ever"
Thanks,
Phil

Glad you got it handled Erik. Phil, nice to see you are getting a controller. You will not be disappointed with the AquaController.

Erik, if you are going to pitch the RK2 I might be able to make something I have been thinking about out of the parts :)
You could throw it my way instead of the trash. Please let me know.

Just curious........why are these multi controlller units popular? I don't like them & think they're a bad idea. Mainly because of what just happened to Erik.

They're a gimmik luxury item............a good temp controller is all thats needed for any system. Light timers are cheap & the rest of that automation is useless to me.

It depends on the controller and ultimate goal of your reef. For me, I travel a lot so I need a certain level of automation to keep things consistent while I am away. Certain controllers can be monitored via the web or cell phone and go as far as sending you an email if alarms are tripped, etc.

Are they necessary, no, but they do make life a lot easier. Mine coordinates the lights, controls my flow in relation to the time of day, controls my Ca Reactor as well as the addition of Kalk, controls temps at 2 levels (normal with emergency backup), will shut the return off if water is detected under the display, the list goes on. Still haven't figure a way to have it make coffee for me though...

You also have the luxury of setting a high temp limit where some of your lighting will be turned off and if the temp goes even higher you could turn off all lights. That alone should justify the price when you compare it to the monetary cost and heartache that was caused when many reefers had a stuck heater and lost everything.

The key with all of these is redundancy. If your heaters are controlled by the controller then have one outside of the controller running on its own in case the temp gets low enough then the emergency heater kicks on to minimize heat loss.

I love having an AC3 and I like being able to control the moonlights and other things like a frag tank that aren't near the main unit by using X-10 modules. I have the controller in the basement controlling the upstairs tank as well as the basement in-wall system.

Good point Jeff. ..........if work takes you out of town a lot I can understand the use.

itZme, on temp control.........like I said earlier, a good dual Ranco temp controller can do that for a tenth of the price & they are industrial grade, more reliable & parts are easily replaced.

I guess I'm just old school......I'll never own one. Not worth the $ to me.

No more pm's about wanting the unit please, It's burned up from the inside and the display was bad months ago. Im sending it back to them and if it comes back I will let you all no. The line for it is 10 deep now :)
Thanks.
Erik

I started a SPS reef tank about 8 or 9 months ago. I have used the RK2 since the start. I had it on my old 40 gallon playing with it until I set up my new tank (I even had to send it back for work after it decided to go for a swim in the sump). I think the best advantage in any controller is consistency. The use of one single unit allows you to keep the tank within a very tight range. I have always heard that in SPS tanks the swings are what will kill you.

I am leaving town for the next week and will not be back until Sunday afternoon. By using the controller, I can check on it while I am away and I can not worry about whether my secretary can do anything other than feed the fish. The controller will take care of everything else.

10 deep? And nobody wants my AC Pro?

Erik, were you able to use any of the components from the RK2 on your AC jr?
