Reef Keeper Elite Pre-Orders started

Thanks for the heads up. I have been looking at various controllers to know when to pounce on a used one that may come up; but the very few used that I have seen were not that much of a deal and someone snatched them up.

After looking the RKElite over I decided the price was good for everything you are getting and the free promotional item was enough to get me to buy now rather than wait.

Now I just need a bigger tank! :fish1

I've never had a problem with their customer support. They've gone above and beyond the two times I've had to use them.

The problem was a gradually dimming display light. This happened to two units over several years. No it is not a red flag at all, and the units were out of the warranty and DA still backed up their product. What was your bad experience?

numerous out of the box problems, and I was within the 30 no questions asked return policy which they didn't hold up too.
My rk2 doesn't keep time, the ph probe never reads accurate plus my auto turn off or turn on for chiller/fan doesn't turn on all the time like it should.
Junk IMO

Wow...sounds like you got a lemon there....I'd be anti rk as well if that happened to me. The three I've had have been wonderful minus the screen issues. A buddy has two and he loves his.
thanks, Andy

Everyone was telling me to get the aqua controller too, Foolish me didn't listen :(
Im basically using it to turn my lights off and on now.

I've had my RK2 for three years with no problems. It is controlling all my lights, heater, return pump, skimmer, calcium reactor, cooling fan for lights, and a pair of Tunze nanostreams on the wavemaker, plus the feed pump for my reactor. Oh and the light for my refugium. The thing i like about it is anyone that can set a digital clock can figure out how to run it. There are no "if statements" to deal with, you just pick from the menus and configure as needed. So when i was 1200 miles away sitting in a boat on a 300 acre lake fishing i was able to answer my cell phone and explain in very quick simple terms how to deal with shutting down the right things to clean the skimmer to my mother who was kind enough to watch over my animals. I'm sure there are some units that have problems but i think you will find that with any of the controllers or any electronic device. Every controller company has a forum on here and they are full of people who are having one problem or another be it a quality issue or self-induced stupidity.

I had a not so great experience with DA customer service not long after RK1 first was out. I decided then that a new model reef controller was not something I wanted to be first in line for.

I will say I ended up with a rk2, and have had no issues. I'd guess I've been running it about 2 years.

The big difference I see in their service is that, unlike an awesome customer service company such as Tunze, DA requires you to PAY FOR a replacement and then after sending the old one back they credit you the refund in full. It is still "making good" on their warranty in my opinion but when you send a PM to Curt from Tunze he sends the parts without question and most times without proof of purchase or even proof of ownership. He would rather have the reputation and the great customer loyalty and lose a few bucks on a couple people who aren't being truthful than lose potential customers by doing things the way DA does it.

Seems like in this hobby you either get a unit that is no problem or nothing but problems... Not much in the way of little issues.

Just my 2 cents :)

I am torn now after reading all of this.. I thought it was really cool.
What is there incentive offer anyways?????

The free offer: (follow the link from top of the post)

"All customers that take advantage of the Digital Aquatics ReefKeeper Elite pre-order will receive a certifi cate for a free Moon
Light Controller, (MLC.) The MLC is scheduled to be released about 60 days after the pre-order has completed. We will post
when the MLCs are available on our site and on Reef Central."

I found several discussions threads about RK2 using google almost all the discussions were positive, I don't remember anything that really was negative.

I agree with itZme that good customer service should not require you to pay for a replacement than refund your money. As with the comment about 1st product release I think of it as their third since they now have years of experience with these types of controllers, but I do expect firmware updates will need to be done.

Sorry forgot to add after (follow the link from top of the post): click on the highlighted pre-order. A page describing the free off will be displayed.

i have never had one problem ever with my aquacontroller i have used it for 2 years now and it was the best decision i ever made, actually thank god Dan made the decision for me, i was about to go with the Reefkeeper...

I called Digital Aquatics to ask how they handle warranty issues and service. They did say they do ask for a partial payment of the item while in cross transit (until they receive the warranted item) the example I got was about 75% of the costs of the new item. The money is refunded when the item is received. After discussing several things I feel they will stand behind their product if there any issues arise.

He also went over some of the new features here are some of the ones that caught my attention. They really put this together to include the basics every reefer wants and if you want more the expansion modules are easy and not that terribly expensive.

All the outputs on the RKM-PC4 will have Soft-Start; each outlet will be switched on at the zero voltage (0 deg) of the sin wave not at a random angle.

The RKM-PC4 will monitor the current draw for the unit and can disable the PC4 before a breaker would trip the unit. You can see the current draw for the PC 4on the head unit or their software when released.

The RMK-MLC moon light controller come wit a pair of LEDs and is expandable with add-on LEDs the best part they are only $8.00 a piece.

One last item is the software is free to anyone you don’t need to buy anything DA. Of course the automatic features do not work but you can use it to manually enter you data and the chart feature will still work.
