Reef Octo history lesson

Well I haved had the Reef Octo longer than most and I have talked quite a few of you into it. Some of the dicussions of models have gotten quite confusing so I wanted to clear it up.

Everything Octo is on this EXTREMILY long thread. Honestily one of the longest active threads on RC right now.

I thought I would save you the trouble and sum up the history.

That company makes the whole Reef Octo line. They needed a US distributor so they went looking. Almost two years ago Coral-vue was set to become the main importer. They where going to sell the line with Resun pumps. Apparentily this ticked off ASM and Euro-Reef as they used the sedra at the time which where made by Resun but a few of those got in and still show up on E-bay.

Coral-vue doesn't seem to be that great of an importer to begin with and Honya had to find another pump. They went with the Haelia pump that the skimmer uses now. Haelia makes the Oceanrunner line and the pumps are top knotch. Coral-vue never got there act together and then got hit by Katrina and Rita and it knocked them out of the running.

Back to the hunt for a new distributor. That is when Pacfic Coast Imports showed up. Notice the thread title up top. It was the Pacfic Coast Import Skimmer when it first started to take off. I have a PCI and it looks as Jason does too.

Once it started to take off PCI started jacking up the price and Honya decided to use more than one distributor. That is when Marine Solution and all the other mailorder places started to showed up and that how we ended up with half a dozen different models names for a single skimmer line.

What I am trying to say is when shopping for a Octo skimmer they are all the same models from Honya. It just depends on how and when they got here.

Fun with imports.

I hope this wasn't more confusing.
