Reef Octopus classic 100-HOB protein skimmer by coralvue

Hi all,

I have read online the breakin period is 3-4 weeks and during this period there could be no foam production and microbubble production.

I was curious from those with experience with this protein skimmer how accurate that is? I setup my Reef Octopus classic 100-HOB protein skimmer by coralvue last night and have seen zero foam production and microbubbles getting through the sponge. I was curious how long this took for others to go away/function properly. When should i strt to adjust settings(air intake/water level). I currently have the air intake fully open. I will take pictures for everyone. I just curious how much i should be tinkering with settings/concerned with it working.

My tank is 6 months old has 2 occ clown 1 bicolored blenny, 1 condy anemone, 1 star fish and this is the first protein skimmer so I know i have some violod waste that needs to be skimmed off. I will take pictures and upload now. Thanks for any help.

The instructions that came with it were basically this is what comes with it this is how you assemble it. So its more did i do things right.

I have intake as close to surface as i can get it about a 1/4 inch from surface. Output is basically at surface completely surrounded by sponges.

Mocrobubbles r hard to see u less up close and looking for them.

Thank You Schnebbles,

As far as setting yours up, did you get the microbubbles when you first set it up?

For mine unless i am right at the tank looking closely i dont see them. And the foam did you just leave the cup high so it didnt overflow until you had consistent foam? or how did you take care of that. I currently have the overflow cup just above the bubble line(water/bubble line) to avoid the overflow filling with water, but i am concerned when the foam starts it will fill so quickly it could overflow.

I appologize as i said this is my first protein skimmer and the manual is kind of lacking in setup outside of assembly, rinse and turn on.

Mine didn't take that long

I had a older version of this skimmer Where is the sponge I was told to remove it because the skimmer would overflow on start up. I do not think you are getting enough air I would remove the silencer and put the air line tube in a cup of water and see if the pump can draw the air in.

i put water in the bottom of a cup and the hose sucked all the water up.
