Reef Safe Epoxy Putty - Lowes / HD?

Hello,

I had some corals come in last night. I need some epoxy putty to mount them but don't have any on hand and I don't want to wait for an order from from an online retailer.

Are any of you aware of epoxy you can grab at HD or Lowes which is reef safe?

Thanks,
Ben

If you want a hard epoxy, I like JB Water Weld. For a more glue-like epoxy, the Gorilla Epoxy is nice. The hard epoxies are much easier to work with but do not bind as well as the glue-like kind. As far as I know these are both safe.

I've also heard really good things about the extra thick glue that BRS sells.

Just be careful with the JB Water Weld. Your skimmer will go wild for awhile. Best to turn it off for 30 minutes IMO

The extra thick glue from BRS is great compared to super glue gel found in stores... but its wont work as well for gluing down frag disks like putty. But it is great for gluing loose frags to rocks or disks. The stuff never clogs the applicator tip and does a good job. I recommend it!

Thanks guys. Picked up the JB Weld. Worked great.

The glue works great on small frags. We received large leather pieces and glue alone wasn't going to cut it.

My favorite method is to get some epoxy in a ball. Put some glue on it. Mash the frag into the epoxy through the glue. Then put some glue on the opposite end of the epoxy and push that into the live rock. I like it because I get the benefit of the glue and the epoxy.

Its all the same- I run a hardware store and all our epoxies of this type are the same formula- which is the same as the marine stuff. Remember it does produce heat as it cures and some frags, especially sps can be damaged by this process- super glue is better for this. And yes they will send a skimmer into fits.

I don't like the glue tubes due to the fact that the tip clogs after first use. I use the epoxy from Home Depot, I make sure it says "safe for potable water" .
