Reef tank plan

Hi,

I am in the process of planning my first SW tank, and I'm wondering if my fauna and flora list is compatible with each other:

Fauna

• 2x Ocellaris Clownfish

• 2x Neon Goby

• 2x Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp

• 2x Kenya Tree Coral frag

• 2x Devil's Hand Coral frag

• 2x Toadstool Coral frag

Flora

• 3x Red Mangrove propagule

What size is the tank?

Everything looks good to me as long as your tank is big enough to handle the fish load.

Thanks for the advice, I haven't decided the tank size yet, but I'm thinking of something around 30 to 40 gallons.

30 gallons would seem alright for the fish, but be careful with neon gobies as they generally don't last long in captivity.

I think it's just their lifespan overall even in the wild

If that's the case, then I think I'll find another benthic fish, instead of the neon goby.

thinking about adding an elevated area of sand to accommodate some mudskippers and mangroves, will this work?

I would make it bigger - at some point you will want to add a large angelfish to get rid of the Kenya trees

In all seriousness, I would ditch the neon gobies and replace them with a pair of High-Fin or Yasha Gobies and a candy cane pistol shrimp as they live longer, are much hardier and much more interesting.
IME neon gobies are terrible ich magnets.

I had more and larger fish in smaller tanks - 30 gallons should be plenty for 4 small fish.

i meant the one about the elevated sand to accommodate mudskippers (see above).

Note: I've decided to use a 55 gallon tank

You would need to make some terraces to prevent the sand from leveling out over time.

Though for mudskippers I would probably rather build a sloped species tank with tidal simulation.

I see, how about salinity? Can mudskippers handle full strength marine water?

I'm not sure. You would need to look it up for the species you could get.
