Reef Web Cams!

I have webcams on my dogs in the backyard, my parrot in our bedroom, my bearded dragon at work, and I have 2 cams on my 480gal shark tank....here is my home page where you can access all of them:

The cams are displayed as thumbnails with a 5 second refresh on the main screen. If you click on the button (on the left side) it will take you to the individual cams.....use Internet Explorer....the first time you try it it will install an ActiveX control from D-Link......it only takes about 30 seconds. You can move the cams around by clicking on the video.....

My cams are all D-Link DCS-5300's......I have them going thru a Linksys Router......my ISP is SBC. All my hosting is done on 1and1

Fantastic thread - I tried to check your webcams, but its late.

I was hoping to watch the shark and batfish swimming Rob. :(

I use a Vivotek as well.

user name "rc123"
pass word "123456"

internal web server on wireless IP cam. You don't even need to own a pc but would of course need a service provider. I use SNET

Software

A commercial grade piece of software you can use is Video Insight or something like it. It will run more cameras than you will ever need.
 
Yesterday I installed a Webcam to watch my 125 gallons reef tank from remote locations.

I used my daugther's Logitech webcam and Windows Media Encoder software (free from Microsoft site). I have a DSL connection with a 2wire router. After some reading this is my webcam :)

You have to open Windows Media Player, select file, open URL.. and type or cut and paste this address in the box and hit OK:

http://64.237.154.186:1946/

In a few seconds you will see my tank. Lights are on from 3pm to 1am eastern time.

Music is from an itunes mix..

Let me know how it looks
 
Can you post the detail of setting up that you did on yours?

I used very similar instructions from another site.

Now I am trying to find a wireless webcam to eliminate the USB cable running all over my floor from the computer to the tank.

Any recommendations of a good webcam with a price around $100?
