Reefbreeders, Hydra52, buildmyled or Razor 16K

I run the razor and am pretty happy with it. It would definately be fun to "play with" a fixture that has mulltiple channels. I find that six time points is just fine. It is amazing how far and fast LED lighting has come. I was just reading the latest copy of Sound and Vision (a home theater mag), the first OLED sets are now on sale, All I could think was who and when for reef tanks

nanoreefer1000,
You have owned all four?? Just ryiing to pick everyones brain here as I have NEVER owned one myself as of yet. I have on the other hand owned many a metal halide set up and T5's as well.
I just want a good fixture that will give me superb color and some good adjustability. I honestly do not want to spend 1000.00+ for lights. I think honestly that's wayyyyy too much money. Unless someone can really explain the differences between say a Radion Pro and a Reefbreeders fixture. I understand the software upgrades, but are the bulbs actually that much better?????
Can you guys tell me exactly what differences you have noticed in the fixtures? I will be keeping mainly SPS and maybe a few rare lime green leathers down below.
But mainly SPS. I could even purchase Radion Pro's or the new Orphek. That was a beautiful fixture as well.
I want power with power to spare as well. I want extra!

mixxedreefjunky,
Thanks! I know, it's just hard for me to do that as I cannot see their current spectrum. No graphs on the homepage. But I know they have a lot of power, and grow corals well. Softies,LPS, mushrooms etc.
The color of the reefbreeders is a rich blue that's really nice! I like them, and I bet the photon series w/ the controller is really nice! Hell, they even come with a remote at no extra charge!
So whats the difference between a bridgelux chipset and a Cree. I know Cree is USA and Bridglux is Chinese. For example, are the Cree blues different looking then the bridgelux? More power?
Trying to learn all I can here. Thanks!

Devaji,
Yessir! I would need 2 Hydras for sure for SPS corals. Even the Hydra 52's I would do two! You can manually dim them, so having reserve power is what I want.

Stancfii,
Yes, I like my tank! And I love acrylic too. The 24" tall gives it a much more natural look I feel! Taller always looks more natural and better in my opinion.
So you think I would have about 30% left on a razor for SPS in my tank? I just do not want to have to run them full throttle.
It would be nice to know they where at 1/2 or 2/3's and running cooler. And more corals are popping and growth is excellent.
I liked the Razor for a long time I wanted that fixture. It's got good quality, looks awesome and I like the 3 pucks. ITs the next best thing to a full spread of led's! At least you get both sides of most corals In the tank.
The Razor does look great! However, I do not think I have ever seem one in person come to think of it.
Thank you

I've owned the maxspect awesome light, the reefbreeders look great and most people love them, DIY is always a great option, JMO two Evil Clusters are way better and cheaper than the Radion Pro's, which I like but less spectrum more controllability isnt my favorite way to go so....

nanoreefer,
I really like the coverage of the reefbreeders. Very similar to a T5 bulb in many BUT NOT ALL aspects.
If I went with the 32 photon and got 90 degree optics I think I would have plenty of light!!!
Does anyone know the technical differences between the bridgelux and the Cree led's?
Just curious as to the differences. Also, do Cree give longer life then the Bridgelux leds? Or is it just a matter of heat?

RB's knockoff leds aren't as efficient, I dislike that and the fact they're knockoffs but for the price it's easily an awesome fixture. Plus the leds don't make that much of a difference....

fletch999,
Boy that was jut what I was wanting to see! And it looks plenty good to me. I am sold and will more then likely be ordering it tomorrow.
I just purchased a Tunze nano wave maker for my 65 gallon. I will be using it and a Vortech to start out for circulation. Should be good to go.
The Photon32 will sit above my tank at a angle. This baby should put out a ton of PAR for my corals, even with the covers on! I may go to thinner acrylic covers. I will run PAR numbers with my apogee meter once the unit arrives.
My tank is 36 inches, so a 32 should give me a darn good spread! What do you think?
Thanks again.

Here's a few pics of the tank. I have built the stand myself and it's 46 inches tall. The tank will have a counter all the way around the tank with extra tall barstools. The top of the tank stands almost 6 foot tall! No more bending down to look at this reef!
And your going to be able to sit at the bar and have a cup of coffee or whatever you like and look at the corals! I built the stand out of 2x4's and marine grade plywood. I will post some update pics too!:D

ya I think you should be good. I do know the 32 was originally suppose to go on a 48, but the edges were to dim, so it should light the 36 just fine. I would email or pm Logan and make sure. What optics are you doing? seems 90 degree are the most recommended. unless you have a really shallow or deep tank. I have the 90's and I'm 22 in deep.

fletch,
Have been in contact with Logan. Yes, he said the 90's will be fine for my 24" deep tank. He told me its so powerful that my center brace will not matter. Which is good to know, as it's 1/2 acrylic. I think this light is going to be really really nice!!!!
If any thing I am thinking the center brace will help to balance out the center par numbers a bit. The center will be by far the highest numbers I am sure. Here's my top:

so it looks like your sold on the Reefbreeders 36" fixture?
I am excited for you..haha but plz do keep us posted with lots of pics and vids.
i am still on the fence...but i have time dont have the tank yet.

oh nice tank BTW. :)

Devaji108,
The reefbreeders are nice fixtures and I finally got to see the spectrum on them They do indeed look great! I will get the photon with the controller and remote. Seems like a darn good deal to me.
I bought a Tunze nano wave maker for my tank yesterday. So with that, A Vortech, and two inlets I am hoping to have plenty of current. We shall see!
I got the counter top on the tank last night. Looks huge now! Looks like a 100 gallon tank instead of a 65 gallon. It's going to be nice!
Now I need to purchase my lights. Still drooling over the Hydra52's too............

Meshwheel,
Crees are a bit more powerful 3w XPE does 250 lumens. Bridgelux 3w does 180 lumens but with better color pop. Penetration is about equal, maybe a little higher with crees. OH and the reefbreeders does SPS just fine as well, lots of pictures online to show this. Just dont go to wide on your optics no matter your choice. DIY would be nice and cheap, but probably lacking control to reefbreeders. You can probably e-mail Logan at Reefbreeders and get a graph of the LED layout. As for the spectrum, well that would change quite a bit depending on how you dim the channels I would imagine. For instance turn the blues down for a 10k look or turn the blues up for a 14k - 20k look. I believe they come preset with a 14k look.
