So after 1.5 year with a IM Nuvo 20 I finally went to a reefer 350...
All I have to say is amazing. When i renovate my basement I hope to get a larger one... No idea how to get it downstairs though...
Onto my setup and then issue.
Equipment on the tank:
1 x Eheim 2400
1 x hydor Koralia 3G
2x Marine land 300 watt heaters
2 x Kessil 360 Tuna blue (These fixtures are great but look ugly as hell(the arms at least))
I didnt start the tank with a skimmer because I wasnt sure if i wanted a skimmer or algae scrubber.
After much thought decided with a skimmer for now and when everything settles turn the sump into part refigium and have lots of pods for a Mandarin Fish.
Come Boxing day bought a Bubble Magnus Curve 5 without doing much research on the make or model but went on the suggestion from the LFS.
Got super excited, put it together, threw it into the sump and OVERFLOW GALORE.. 24 hours later same thing. Did some more research looks like I assembled the plate that attaches to the pump in the wrong direction. As the parts without the holes should be over top of the outlet of the pump.
Once corrected this calmed the pump down but I still have the drain tube unloading water.
48 Hours later tested the water. 8.0 PH and 5 ppm Nitrate.
So I added some reef buffer to get the PH up to 8.4.
Today, 72 hours later, PH was still low so added some more PH buffer. Every time I add some PH buffer the skimmer calms down a little bit.
However on Max this thing is still overflowing like mad. Directions said 23-27 cm of water. I'm in 24 cm of water.
This "break-in" period people talk about seems more about the tank water breaking in rather than the sump itself.
Etiher way this has been set on "Max" which seems like a minimum?? for 72 hours and has not calmed down to the point where i can see it as usable. I did try raising it up, but then air seems to shoot down the tube that you can adjust and make the sump look dirty.
Thoughts??
