Mystery Wrasse, I got it from CaptainFlyingFishGuts when he tore down his tank. He's missing a bit of his caudal fin from a tussle with the red velvet wrasse.

I think the tank has finally bottomed out and is starting to recover. The frogspawn is looking good again and my sole remaining half dead acro's polyps are back out and it looks to be growing back. :) I only thing I changed was cutting my GFO in half which helps keep the Alk a bit more stable, but I'm changing it out twice as often. I also recently switched from Coralife to IO which could possibly be the difference but probably not ;)

That's good to hear... did u lower your salinity any? The I o salt could help your alk which imo was just a touch too low.

Nope, keeping steady at 35 PPT. I'm tesing my Alk a lot and changing salt brands hasn't effected it any measureable amount. Its currently holding at 8.5 DKH, though I do want to bring it up to 9.0.

THis guy came out of QT last night and was eating like a pig 30 minutes after going in the display. He and the sailfin tang quickly worked out their squabbles and seem to be getting along fine today. I've got a falco hawk in QT now

The PBT has been on my want list for as long as I've been doing reefs but this is the first time I've had a tank big enough to house one. Once the Sailfin gets too big I'll probably get rid of him and let the powder blue be the lone tang in the tank.

Thanks guys, He's already proving to be a butthead, I saw him picking on my red velvet wrasse this morning.

With the jawfish tank now cycling I'm starting to get around to some loose ends on the 150. One of the things I wanted to do from the beginning with this tank was keep all the walls of the tank free of coraline and other algae. Its all part of trying to create an illusion that nothing exists in the tank but the coral bommie and fish that live on it.

The glass is easy enough to keep clean with a magnet and scrapers and the Vortechs look good as new after a vinegar bath. However, the overflow is the real challenge. For those unfamiliar with Marineland overflows, there made of a slightly textured plastic (ABS perhaps) that is nearly impossible to keep free of coraline. The center panel is removable and can be cleaned outside of the tank but the majority of the overflow is essentially part of the tank.

Rather than fight it I decided to cover it with something that could be removed from the tank and easily cleaned with a vinegar bath. So here's what I did:

-1/4" black acrylic with routed slots for the bottom level suction. I kinda almost regret bothering with cutting these. 13" wide and 22.5" long, I wish I could have made it at least a inch longer but I was limited by the width of my oven.
-Plywood Form, not my best work but it served its purpose

I preheated the form in the oven at 325. Heated the acrylic for about 10 minutes. After a couple tries and a little help from Beth, I finished with this.

Finally, in the tank. Overflow? what overflow?

The black PVC elbows for the return should be in this week and then nothing foreign should stand out, except perhaps the nori clip. I'll need to work on that one

Lookin great man. That clam blows me away, how long did it take to get that big? I had some ricordea attach to the side of mine I'm hoping it will cover the side.

It was two inches about five years ago ;)

Also what's your fish list as of now, and your plans for the future?

2 Kathy's clowns
ORA orchid dottyback
bicolor blenny
yellow watchman goby
red velvet wrasse
mystery wrasse
powder blue tang
red sea sailfin tang

Falco hawkfish in QT

I'm planning for about 20-25 fish total, including several more wrasses but no more tangs ;)

I plan on growing corals on the clams as well. I've seen some really cool videos of massive SPS growing on squamosas. Its kinda cool to see when they open and close.

I'm thinking of a squamosa myself. Most people do zoas on them but I'm wanting to go a different route. Are you thinking of doing sps?

put your dottyback last, i've read that they need to be last fish added to tank cause anything else added close to its size will probally be killed. i have a springeri pseodochromis and it tore up new sixline i tried to add, had to buy a big christmas wrasse instead.
