Reefiez first saltwater Reefer 525 KISS build

just an update

things are going swimmingly, did a little rescape, and got an acropora garden starting on one of the large rocks.

also got one of the mini australian scolymia, and i must say the skeleton is tiny, but my gosh do they open up huge.

Things looking a bit brown due to a filter on the camera, or else it would all be blue, will try to do a better pic next time lol

a new year!

a new year!

It has been a year since I placed the order for the 525, and about 9-10 months into the hobby. Having an absolute blast, though space seems to be a big limiting factor at the moment.

Almost a year!

Almost a year!

Yearly update!

Large changes:
Monthly 20g water changes (~16-18%). Went from weekly, to biweekly, and finally to monthly. Still using RS Coral Pro, but will switch to blue bucket to match my water parameters.
Changed from Kalkwasser to 2 Part with dosing pump. Ambient humidity and temperature fluctuations are too large to be able to maintain stable evaporation. Also, kalk was also struggling to keep up with demand.
Upgraded to a Nyos 220 Skimmer, super super happy with it. More quiet, and with better control for skimmate compared to the Deltec.
Upgraded to a Kessil H80 for refugium, from a Zetlight freshwater LED strip light.
Moved both Gyre XF250s to 1 side of the tank to create one side with calmer flow.

Currently dosing:
2 Part: 60ml per day (started 1 month ago)
RS Reef Energy A+B: 1 cap 3 times a week
RS Colors ABCD: 5ml every 4 days (started 1 month ago)
TLF Acropower: 25ml every week (started 1 month ago)
BW Ferrion: 1ml per day (started 1 month ago), mainly to encourage chaeto growth as it was being smothered by microalgae
NoPox: 6ml every day

Currently feeding:
2 cubes hikari frozen every day
1 small piece LRS frozen every day
Pinch of flake/pellet (depends)
1 sheet TLF Julian Sea Veggies (alternating red/green) every 2 days

Target coral feeding (once a week, all mixed together):
1/2 tsp polyp lab reef roids
1/2 tsp hikari coraldelite
1/4 tsp coral frenzy
1/4 tsp fauna marin LPS grow
1 cube frozen rofiter

Broadcast coral feeding (twice a week):
Brightwell reefsnow: 10ml
Brightwell zooplanktos-L: 5ml

Media current used:
Carbon (red sea): 100g every month
Purigen (seachem): forgot the size, but it's a small pack
Bacto Reef Balls (fauna marin): 10 balls per month, carbon source
Marinepure: 3 thick blocks + 2 thin blocks in the sump

Latest parameters:

NO3: 0.75 (red sea), 1.0 (salifert)
PO4: 0.026 (hanna)
Calcium: 440 (salifert)
KH: 8.5 (salifert)
MG: 1350 (salifert)
K: 440 (salifert)
pH: 8.3 (API, lol)
Salinity: 35 ppt (milwaukee)
Temperature: 74-76f

Future upgrades:
Might add a MP40
T5 retrofit (looking for one that will work with the reefer deluxe Hydra 26HD)
Red Sea Reefer 1000XXXL?
MORE CORALS! (JUST NOT GREEN PLEASE)

Weird, pictures make corals look much better than in person... this colony looks brown/gray when looking in the tank, but from above, looks much more awesome!

Here it is, daytime under the hydra 26 hds. Using an orange gel filter with no editing.

Here is the same coral at night, with a UV flashlight shining on it, no gel filter, no editing.

Been a bit over a year now, and sadly it is time to say goodbye... for now

Moving in a month, setting up a new RS 650 peninsula (SPS only), and restarting this 525 into a LPS/mushroom/softie tank. In fact, I'll probably let star polyps overrun the 525

Oh, and my trochus decided to celebrate the end of the world cup too!

Any chance you could post a small handful of sump pictures? I am looking at purchasing this tank in the next month or two and starting to really plan it out.
