Reeflo Blowhole pumps?

Bigred

The Truth
Anyone using these pumps? Just wondered because I was thinking of using them for my closed loop set up. They look great for inline pumps.

I have the 1450, it does the job well. Mine is on a 125g with a 60g sump in the basement, pushes the water up about 10' back up to the dt. My first pump for this set up so I have nothing to compare to but it is quiet and have not had any issues besides I broke the coupling on one side but that was my fault.

also I got mine for $180 on drsfostersmith

That's the model I'm looking at. I figured if it was too strong I can turn it to a lower setting since it has 3 settings. Planning on running 2 of them on a 6 hour rotation for tidal changes.

I have had three of these pumps in the past 8 months.... Bearing seized on all three. Good customer service though. They sent me replacements every time....and i even got a "promise" that the third pump would not fail. But it did. I have a simple closed loop setup with plenty of air circulation around the pump. i clean the pump every month and run it on its medium speed setting. The longest life i got out of one was 3 months. Sucks because these things are super quiet and compact. :headwalls:

Wow. I have not cleaned mine yet nor do I plan to. I dont clean my pumps ever (minus when an anemone got sucked up) and never really have had any issues.

My reeflo as stated is on a basement sump as stated, so it is getting obviously cooler air flow around it. It does sit on a tiny shelf I made with the intention of supporting some of the weight from the pipes.

Mine has also only been in use since the beginning of December so about 4 months now.

I am using four 2700's with my 300 close loop with two pumps turning off at night with a rotation of pumps:) Great customer service!

I just went to a 2700. Dead silent can't even tell its running, mine pumps from the basement 18' to DT in 1" return line on middle setting.

I know someone who's been using one for a while, and I've only heard good things about them from others as well. The first negative thing I've read was posted above.

Yeah I have used Reeflo products since they have been available and never had issues with them. I'm leaning towards getting two of these over the Panworld pumps.

Here is one half of my close loop set up with each pump feed by its own 2" drain then feeding two 1" inlets each.

I have the BH 2700. Came home to a disaster today. I have been in the hobby for 30 years and always install redundancy in my tanks. However, never thought this could happen. The pump has been running for only 2 weeks! Pump was seized and impossible to touch with the heat coming off it. Im thankful it did not burn my house down. Water was leaking everywhere from the intake and outake where the metal housing couples with pvc fittings Since the heat will expand the PVC fittings. Pump is 5 ft below tank in an open steel stand. I dont think the metal housing of the BH2700 agrees with connecting to PVC. I am so disappointed, reeflo is closed for the weekend. Water is everywhere, my floors, carpet, furniture.

I appreciate the sympathy. You guys are the only ones that can relate. I took apart the pump. The impeller was locked up, but after a little manual spin, it was free and spinned with little resistance. After turning it on, it would not spin on the low setting, but wouls start spinning when switched to the medium setting. It seems like it does not have the ability to operate on low speed from a dead start. This was the case before the meltdown as well. . Perhaps pipe dope would be the best way to connect pvc to the BH2700? Is pipe dope better than teflon? Thoughts?

I use aquarium sealant instead of teflon on all my threaded conections and bulkheads when I install them. Little messy but NEVER had a leak doing it this way.

I had a similar issue as Maivortex. I wasnt home when it happened. My gf came home to the house smelling a electrical fire which was from the pump. She killed the main breaker on the house. I found out when i got home the impeller was locked up and the inside of the pump was full of rust. I guess reeflo had a issue with the first ones. They replaced it but it made me mad when Beth at reeflo said that it wasnt possible for it to smoke like it did. Ive had great customer service if i dont have to deal with Beth. The replacement has been ok but im still upset and dont know if i would buy another reeflo because of her attitude. I have a Hammerhead as well which has had several seals out. Over all though they do make a great pump!

Happy I found this, was just thinking about buying. Let me know if you find something better! Had a Poseidon PS4 External Pump just freeze up again for the 3rd time. Ready for something new, thinking DC.

reeflo is replacing the pump . Should have a new one here in 2 days. Refflo said the Beta versions dont function well on "low" setting. Solid pump, just make sure you dont have the earlier versions.
