I have an elbow that is half submerged. It is virtually silent

any problem with bubbles?

I have a 45 elbow half submerged, that's also silent.
No problem with bubbles, the skimmer dumps to the opposite end of the sump from the return pump. For what it's worth, or if it makes a difference, I am feeding the skimmer from one of the overflows.

My new skimmer has shipped and should be here on Thursday ..... I'll post pictures for all interested.

The reeflo is still running strong ...

How often does everyone here clean their skimmers / collection cup necks ?

I have noticed that for best performance cleaning is required every 3 days at the latest. At the 1 week mark the skimmer performance dropped significantly.
Of course cleaning every day has yielded the best results.

What new skimmer are you getting? I thought you sold your reeflo??

I need a program to keep up with all these changes

WOW!, that seems a bit much....what are you doing to clean the neck? Were u cleaning it with the collection cup still on the skimmer?

I agree on the cleaning. It seems to drop after a few days. Every couple of weeks I shut off the pumps and take the entire neck off. Every 4-5 days I shutoff the air and wipe the inside of the neck with a paper towel.

Where's the auto-cleaner? ;)

Out of curiousity, how often did u clean the skimmers you had before this one?

Right now i am cleaning my Reeflo once a month, but listening to u guys i should multiply that by 4 or 5.

Where do you guys recommend keeping the water level in the skimmer with the pump running and the air shut off for the best performance from the skimmer?

I also noticed that after a cleaning, it takes upto a day to start producing skimmate again and after a feeding, it takes upto 4 hours to start producing skimmate.

I pull the cup off & rinse out the neck & cup. Sometimes I take paper shop towels & wipe the neck after as well.

On the way - the new skimmer has a wet neck!

My DAS EX-3 i cleaned once every 2 weeks ... it never made much of a difference, and didn't cake up like this one does.

I keep mine just a little above the black collar, about 1/2 - 3/4" above.
Mine resumes right away after cleaning ... has the foam head rebuilt within 15-30 minutes, and skims like crazy!
