I feed my beast with a mag 7. I dont have it restricted at all but it pumps up about 5 feet to the input so I calced with head loss at about 450 gph.

I run very dry also and would have the same effect as you speedstar but I have my drain line going into a 5 gallon bucket. Then I have the bucket slightly elevated and an emergency drain at the top of the bucket dumps back into the sump.

DUDE!...... lol ... {drawing a blank } ... that is nasty!
Can you give us some details & specs on yoru system please?
What do you feed it with, how is the air valve (wide open/restricted), system gallons & stocking .. etc..

Thanks,

marco

system is about 400g total. 250g main tank. stock with a lot of tangs. 10 and 11 inch naso, then smaller powder blue, yellow, sailfin, tomini, and 3 wrasses. the tank is almost all sps. I have a build thread in the large reeftank forum.

the air valve is wide open. water level is set to about 3/4 inch below screw collar.
I also setup the drain to a bucket to over into sump after 2 floods when I was in the almost closed wedge position.

it will take a minute to download but this is a video of tank. it is 30meg. www.breakabranch.com/MOM.MOV yes my mom wanted to see tank and I had to make file name easy.

I do dose sugar and vodka every otherday. never have gotten the ugly bloom yet.

a reeflo skimmer :) I run the scraper over the bottom that I can once a week and also take a mag 5 and sweep the bottom with it to get the yuck into the coloum so the skimmer can grab it.

Just wanted to post what i had done for my skimmer drain.
Originaly i had it drain into a 5 gal bucket. After an incedent i had i revised my drain. If the skimmer goes crazy it can fill the bucket, draining 5gals out of the sump/tank. If u use an ATO it would kick in then start lowering your salinity as it tries to replace 5 gallons at once...and could even be worst if u run Kalk with ur top off as it fills the missing 5gals.

My solution was this $5 item from walmart. As u can see the waiste drains into the unit. If the water should get to high i have a float switch that will kill the dart pump. This container holds 1.2galls which is much more manageable when it kicks on the ATO. Plus its easy to drain..just move the lever and it drains nicely into my 5 gal bucket for disposal.

I just did a similar mod on a 2 gallon water carrier like that. Mine has a 1/2" bulkhead through the white lid. Into the bulkhead I put a 1/2" tee with two hoses; one feeds the waste from the skimmer and the other acts as an overflow if the container fills. It works like a charm!

I am sure it would but i am running a 250 on my 240g, I have a large naso, powber blue, blue spotted kole, scribbled rabbit, maroon clown, 4 chromis, 4 cardinals, 6 line and a mystery wrasse. It is a mixed reef and it pulls out about 3/4 the container every 3-4 days. Saying that, i was going to go with the 200 but just decided to get the 250 and try it. After coming from a ER RC500 the 250 blows the ER away. I am much happier with it and even the wife has made comment about the water looks "cleaner". I think you would be fine with either one but me, I am going to be moving to a 500g system before too long and wanted the capability of the 250 skimmer.

My system is 300 and i opted for the bigger 250 model...i have 20fish in the tank...figured it couldnt hurt.

I am getting ready for an upgrade to a 300 gal system. Will the new one (the 200 I think) take care of a tank this size?

The 200 would most certainly handle that tank with no problem at all. Even with a heavy bioload it would keep up. If you are 110% certain you are not going to go bigger, save a few bucks and go with the 200. If there is any chance of upgrade in volume, or you just don't mind spending the extra money, then opt for the 250. HTH!

Of course the best place to get one with the best service is Premium Aquatics. I know I did. LOL

 THIS is the upgrade.
I started dropping a few hints to my wife and I think she's a little scerd.
I'm looking forward to getting it. I t will run in the mean time on my 125. :eek2:
Will this be the final product? I would hate to get it now and see 2.0 come out "just in time for Christmas".

I've been thinking about the Orca 250 skimmer for some time now and have been constantly monitoring this thread. I finally took the plunge and bought this skimmer even though it was a little over my budget. It's currently going to run on a 150 gallon stock tank until I get my 215 gallon tank up and running. Just got delivery yesterday. Can hardly wait to set it up today. Will post feedback as things progress.

I have no idea on cleaning and would like to know the recommendation as well.

just a quick update, my 250 has been running great after getting all squared away with flow etc. I just love this thing i feel it coul;d easily handle 1000g system. I have it on 400g now and am feeding 10 cubes of food plus a good chunck of PE mysis to my tank stocked with a couple 10+ inch tangs, 5 smaller tangs and 6 wrasses. It has been 2 weeks since this feeding regamine and the nitrates are 0 on sailferts and PO4 undetectable. I haven;t gotten the color meter for it yet.

I'm thrilled and my SPS are coloring up like never before. Here is a shot of my tank.
